    Started detailing my new baby.

I haven't detailed a car in about 8 years. It took me a little time to get back in to the swing. I started off light with a white pad and M205 and realized that isn't going to cut it. Went to M105 with the orange pad and it still wasn't enough so on to M105 with the whool pad. This is the start with a long way to go.

I'm using Poor Boy's Black Hole and then Black Fire Paint Sealant topped off with Maguire's Gold Class CarnubaPlus.

That's cleaned up well and is a good start.

Thanks, I ran out of M105 removing the swirls but not the deepest scratches that so know can come out. I'm thinking about going to M101. Supposedly longer working times and more cut with a foam pad. But man is the price a lot higher.

Move up to CarPro Clear cut and you'll thank me. Way better/faster cutting and it finishes out nearly perfect even with purple wool pads. less dust than 101 too. It's a little pricey but way worth it.

    Here's a 2009 G8 that was hammered:

After only 3 passes with a Flex 3401 and LC Purple Wool Pads using ClearCut.

The beauty of it is the speed at which it cuts. As noted on the directions, start off with about 10-15lbs of pressure on the initial passes then let up and it finishes out beautifully. The next huge benefit is polishing the finish to a high gloss is a cake walk from there. Huge time saving product.

This beauty finished out amazing. Used CarPro Essense as the polish then coated it with Cquartz.

I'll give it a try. Ordering the 16 oz and see how it works. I looked at some reviews and they all.seemed to like it. Nicest part is the long work time and no dusting. I'm.also going to get a 3" backing plate and some 3.5" Lake Country pads. I've been doing all of this with DA and 6" or 6.5" which worked great on a truck with no curves bit the body of the A7 has all sorts of curves.

I may use my rotary if needed. I used only that on my truck and it.looked great.
    Thanks for the tip.

It will dust a little more with Wool pads. Overall, it's low though. I don't think you'll need a rotary if you have a Rupes vII or Flex as both have plenty of power to spin. Lower end entry/consumer ones don't do well with wool pads thus if you're using one of those, move to MicroFiber.

I finally started vacation and was able to finish detailing. I'll have to say CarPro Clear Cut is so much easier to work with than M105. Thank you very much for the recommendation.

With an orange pad on my rotary it removed a bunch of light scratches and sanding marks with ease. With a wool pad it cleared up deeper scratches. I followed it up with M205, then Black Fire and topped off with Maguire's Gold CarnubaPlus wax.

    wow that looks great.

Would I get the same results with M105 and a yellow pad?

Probably not with the yellow pad. I used Purple wool pad, Lake Country orange (3.5" with a drill) or Cobra cross hatch Orange pads which all worked well with a rotary. Maguire's red pad would work well. You need a cutting pad whereas the yellow is a polishing pad. The Lake Country with a drill did fantastic for targeting hard spots. The Cobra orange seemed softer than the Lake Country but still worked.

I used the Maguire's yellow polishing pads and black finishing pads (recommended in the M205 bottle). I also tried Cobra Cross hatch white pads on a DA with the M205. The Maguire's pads worked much better than the Cobra pads.

I did all of this with Harbor Freight equipment. The pads are more important than what rotary or DA is used. They now carry Maguire's 105, 205 and others and pads though I don't know how good their pads are.

I wish I would have taken more before pics. The hood was a mess and the rear bumper had big gauges that I repaired. The CarPro with an orange pad took out 1500 and 2500 grit like nothing.

When I did my car I figured the orange pad and M105 followed by White pad and M205 with a DA would be enough. I was worried about cutting too much since it was my first time doing it. It got all the swirls out but there is still some scratches. I will probably have to give the purple wool a try.

The black paint seems very hard. I had to use a rotary. With the DA and the purple pad it only seemed to polish more than cut. The red pad from Maguire's may work much better for cutting with a DA.

From some research the burgundy pad will haze up with a DA. So, following up with the 205 is a must. Maguires states the purple pads and wool pads are for rotary only.

Purple wool or really any wool is best on a forced rotation DA or a rotary. On a regular DA use Microfiber.
