    Break-in question...

So the manual says to go easy on the car until 600miles then until 1k miles, go all out.

What do you guys understand by the owners manual?

I’ve been doing no more than 4k rpms and maybe 25-40% pedal input. And not always will i go up to 4k. I just want to slightly baby it as it cost me a lot of sweat and lack of sleep to buy this car.

I know some of you don’t listen to the manual and thats fine with me but for the ones that do how do you drive it? Shift points etc? Top speed mph? Etc. Thanks

Drive it like you plan on driving it. That said, I would lay off launch control for a little bit. I prefer to make sure everything is working well before adding that extra stress to the system.

As long as the car is fully warm, drive as hard as you would if it had 1500 miles on the clock...

Only thing I would say, Dont put loads of stress on the motor for eg 2krpm in 6th and stomp the throttle up a hill.

I did launch control at about 200kms on the first day. Nearly 7000kms now and the car is doing really great. No issues.

dynamic mode as much as possible particularly on decel. I have gone full throttle a few times but never to redline and never for more than 1 gear. I have 500 miles on my car now. No Launch control or hard 1/2 or 2,3,4 shift until after 1k mile and/or first oil change

This I bought mine new with 16 miles it's at 93k now. I launched out of the dealer parking lot. Although the engine was already at temp from my test drive.

Probably get a million opinions, can’t go wrong following the manual. With that said I was taking it up to about 70% throttle 5-5200 RPM day one, then about 500 miles starting to go full throttle up to about 6-6200. 900 miles called it good and had at it.

I did a half-hearted mototuneUSA break-in, and made damn sure to vary rpms while cruising for the first 1500 miles or so :)

Exactly. Used to do that on all my motorbikes too.

    Definitely vary varied rpm.

cruising on a fix rpm is pro suicide. From what I understand, one of the main points of a break in period is to help seat or bed the piston rings into the cylinder walls.
with that in mind, the only way to do that is to apply a decent amount of load into the motor. the last motor i broke in (which was about a year ago), all i did was run the revs up gently to about 70% from red line and then back down. So even cursing along, i would constantly change gears. by applying load to the cylinder, it pushes the rings against the cylinder wall and helps it bed. Its actually only with in the first few 100km that this process takes place. After that, if the rings didnt bed properly then thats it for them. the rest of the kms are for other parts of the motor i guess.

so drive it like you stole it isnt far from the truth but its more like drive it like you stole it but your parents are in the car sleeping and you dont wanna wake them haha

Always get the engine up to operational temp.
Then vary rmp over the reg range. Highway driving at 2000rpm is the worst thing you can do.
After 2500km do an oil change and then go play.
Thats how I did it and what I was recommended to do.
Of course I had a few accidents and flooring it when there was a bmw at my side but that happened only 2-3 times :)

Worst was when I rented a Challenger like every mustang wanted some action and I'm like I feel like I'm squinting to see through this tiny ass windshield.
