    Driveshaft stuck on trans flange

In the middle of a motor pull, and the last thing holding me up is my center driveshaft is stuck to the trans output flange. This is an AA single piece. I have removed the OEM one countless times over the years, and this has been mounted for only 1 year. I have tried penetrating oil, air hammering, 2x4 with a hammer, rubber mallet, etc... As a last resort I tried tugging on the motor hoist but it will not give. Could use any other methods that yall know of, its already getting marred slightly from the air hammer so I need to be very careful.

I've put the transmission into gear, then raised one of the rear wheels so I can gently rock it forward and backward, that popped it free.

How are you using the air hammer? I usually partially thread a driveshaft bolt in and then air hammer the bolt head parallel with the driveshaft toward the transmission while pulling the driveshaft back and that’s gotten the stuck ones for me every time.

I installed an AA single piece on my car. Then I removed it a week later due to bad vibrations. I took me about 3 hours of straight hammering with a 4lb mallet. I beat the crap out of those cv joints and completely destroyed them in the process because that was the only way they would come off. One of the most miserable experiences ever. And yes, the cv joints on those one piece ds are def on the higher side of the tolerance range which causes an interference fit. Good luck and prepare to beat the crap out of those cv joints. Smash, smash, turn a little, repeat till it comes off.

Just find a used oem ds with a bad center bearing or something and use the cvs of that after you get it off.

CVs on ECS for the drive shaft are $89

Just picked one up myself and it fit perfectly.

I have a hammer Named Zeus that took care of the last DS that wouldn’t break free.

That sounds like the best method at this point. My front axles are already removed though so hopefully that doesn't give me an issue. Will try today

Just perpendicular against the axle cup. Sounds like your basically air hammering the trans AWAY from the axle using the bolt so I'll look into that too

Yea, a lot of people seem to have complaints. I have had zero issues with the AA shaft though and am very happy with it , aside from this. Pretty simple part. Good point about replacing the c/v end, pretty easy to do if I end up completely wrecking this one.

Thanks for all the input guys, will try again today.

Just use the driveshaft itself as the lever and pop that bitch out. Then buy a carbon one

Yep like you’re trying to push the transmission away from the driveshaft... pull back on the driveshaft while you’re doing it, it’s worked for me every time.

I should have asked and tried this method first, one tap on the bolt with the air hammer and they separated..... Destroyed the CV for no reason lol. Thanks everyone again for the input!!
