    '14 RS5 - Lowering Set up

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My long awaited pool yard and driveway are almost finished and now considering lowering and perhaps new wheels and tires.

    1. Any product work with the RS5 suspension. I'd prefer to still keep the electronic options for dynamic, auto etc. I had heard there was some Billstein options that would do that but not found them. Looking at 1-1.5" drop.

    2. Anyone in an RS5 what wheel tire set up will work to avoid any rub.

    Cheers!

In north america our RS5s suspension is static, the settings for dynamic, auto etc do not impact it what so ever.

    Hey Hippy,

Yeah, your US spec will not have adjustable suspension, so you needn't worry about that. However, aftermarket suspension will have adjustability depending on if you go with lowering springs vs coils .For that type of drop, and if you are look for aesthetics go with H&R OE Sports, but coils will do you much more justice in the handling department. My 275s don't rub with H&Rs unless I am really getting some suspension travel via bumps, but as with any lowering be careful of curbs and driveways!!

Thanks. I am running 285s right now so I expect to move back to 275s when I pull the trigger.

The best option is KW HAS (height adjustable springs), they ride smooth/ better vs stock and you can set the ride height to your preference.

Cheers Beast. These were on my radar. Do they have a module to do it automatically ? (Or pretty easy manually?)

If you want something that will raise and lower to a pre-specified height, you'll need an air ride system. Much more expensive and complicated. It's basically a set of cups that sits in between the springs and the top mount. You have an air compressor in the trunk and can "inflate" the cups so they expand and raise the car. Or lower it. It's like a lift system on an exotic where you can raise the front end one inch to get over bumps and driveways etc...

EDIT: The HAS system, like James said, is manual. Meaning you must jack the car up, loosen the lock ring, and physically spin the bottom perch up or down to raise or lower the car. On all four corners. It's pretty much a set and forget thing as it changes your alignment numbers.

Thanks Ape. I am looking at air as well. Sadly I do need the trunk/spare space but this may become a garage queen soon and then I am willing to do Air. Couple months out before I make my final decisions....

So you want a great performing coilover with an option to raise the height from inside the car, allow me to introduce you to:

    KW DDC HLS http://www.kwsuspensions.com/hls

All the adjustment of the KW DDC system with individually adjustable dampers, adjustment made from a phone app or dash button. Add the HLS and you’ve also got hydraulic height adjustment at the push of a button for speed humps and steep driveways.

email them, they have a DDC kit for the RS5 cab and the only difference between the DDC kit and the DDC with HLS is the little hydraulic lifters so possibly a slightly shorter spring.

I'm deeply intrigued by this setup. Why can't they make a DDC that works with the double adjustable setup! I'd sell a kidney for that.

Seriously sexy. Everyone always overlooks silver but having owned a few silver cars, you can forego washing for a month and no one notices. Plus they look spectacular at night

Hippy - im also on GMG and in the Atlanta area. My previous car had airlift but decided to go back to springs for my RS5. GMG rides as close to OEM as possible and the drop is about 1.2-1.5". If youd like to see it and go for a test ride let me know.

Know what offset? Looks like you have a bit of poke. Honestly, the drop looks perfect from the photo you posted.

in all honesty the person that i bought the wheels from had no info on the offsets, i reached out to the rotiform with no success. im running a 10mm in front and 12.5 in rear. I feel like the rear could go down a hair im not a fan of the rake look.
