SCORE! A6 in the local junkyard with back up camera! What all do I need to grab

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys and gals. I've always wished my a6 had a back up camera.
It has the rear bumper sensors and high definition 7" screen but not the camera.

So, bad news is I got caught slacking and just saw this car. It's been here for a month!
I usually check every week for new junkyard cars on their website but oh well.

Locals usually get in and take all the good stuff to sell on Ebay.
    Tails, headlights, air bags etc...

Tail lights were gone on this and you can see in a photo they tried prying the back up camera off. But luckily didn't know how to take it off!

So, I scored the back up camera, rear trim piece that holds it and the pigtail for the camera itself for less than $10.

I'm going to go back when I have time this weekend, and I wanna check with
    What all I need.

Do I need the whole wiring from the trunk to the dash?
    What modules do I need?

It also has the cold weather package with rear heated seats... I kinda want those. Lol...
Not sure its worth it yet. My car has 244k miles but I do plan on keeping it...

So brings another point engine and tranny are still there!
I'm going to check the VIN and see if I can get an idea of the miles and I found the last owners info in the car. Gonna Facebook message him and see if it was was just the wreck or if the motor and tranny had issues.

Anyway, any other modules, wiring or anything I should be grabbing off this car?

Love that these are getting old enough for the junk yards. Lol20180426_173600.jpg20180426_171604.jpg20180426_164943.jpg20180426_173153.jpg20180426_173324.jpg

What year did they start putting the backup cameras on A6s? My 2006 doesn't have one but I'd love to try a retrofit.

Not sure... I assume it was an option.

Found the copart listing! 140,000 miles!

Sounds like I need to pull the motor and tranny since I'd get them for just a couple hundred buxks6

The parking module is located in the trunk on the right side near the wheel well.

The parking module for the rear camera? I have the bumper sensors.
Just wondering what exactly I need. Here's what the area looks like. I hope it's still there..20180426_165042.jpg20180426_165026.jpg

Further on the back on the right side... more towards the front of the car... it's behind the carpet area. Looks like this:

The camera and backup sensors are the same module. The one in your car has a slight chance of being already capable, but that's doubtful. AND if you want the sensors to work WITH the camera, it needs to have the right module too. Does that donor car have sensors AND camera?

Yeah the donor car has both so it's best I try getting that module.

So, do I also need the wiring from the module to the front MMI or anything?

I'm down for pulling the entire harness if I have to. Lol

UPDATE: I found the owner thanks to some paperwork in the car.

He had it 7yrs, insurance company totaled it with 140k miles (which I knew)
The back up camera wasn't hooked up because while it's from an audi a6 it wasn't
from his car. The trunk is a replacement from a different a6 that had it optioned.

So... good news is I got the trim, OEM back up camera and pigtail for cheap.
Bad news is nothing else is there....

    Fuuuuudge!

The only other thing I might be interested in is the rear heated seats but hell I don't know how hard thays going to be to swap out the wiring etc.. it's there though.

I am interested in the engine tranny. I guess I could pull the screen and stuff though and make a buck off it on Ebay....

Yeah, it's probably not worth your time. Harnesses go for like 50 bucks in the wild and they'd let you have it for like 20 bucks, but add your time spent and it's right up there.

I still want the motor and transmission. So if I go I'll grab it too.

Motor loaded is 250. And trans is 150 I think so if I could pick em up that would be great to have. I could start refreshing it for swapping into my car.

I really want a v8 but may as well just do a c7

You should just buy the entire car. That way you will have all sorts of spare parts ready and available.

On mmi2g high you would need to replace mmi module with the one with fbas ( requires cp removal ) or there is a way of adding fbas, google

Im not sure how this is on mmi3g on facelifted models

I'm now getting a parking brake malfunction warning even though they clamp down and work.

I plan on picking a day this week or next and trying to get the engine and transmission.

If people post stuff they want I can try looking for it and getting it.

The alarm horn for the parking system. As I understand, it is on the drivers side, under the trim by the back seat. But don't kill your self getting to it, they are rather cheap new.

    Well I checked my parking module and its 4F0 910 283 D.
The junkyard one is the same except B. I assume when they say graphics support they mean the menu options. Not a graphics display that shows distance like the newer ones.

    Oh well.

The graphics diagram would be awesome, I assume I need Ross tech cable and software to get in and enable it?

I also grabbed a parking brake module since I'm getting a malfunction but it still works.

I assume I still have time before the crush it. So I haven't decided on anything else.

Sry I didn't check for the BT module, I was so mad about the door lock actuator I just left. Lol

NOTE: I tried for 2 hours to get the door lock actuator and I couldn't get it out..

Actuators (new from China) can be had for $65 from Amazon. I wouldn't bother with a used one that will likely be failing soon anyway. Doors get slammed and solder can only take so much.

Does the car have any underseat storage boxes? How about the wood trim?

It does have the underseat storage bins that slide out.

The wood trim is mostly in tact, the middle console part around the cup holder is broken.

    Ill try uploading some photos.

I'm really thinking hard still about the motor/tranny. I know they have 140k on them and spoke to the owner and ran fine after the accident... But It's a ton of work. Ive done it before... lol

If I had the room, I'd take the motor and build it over time. New rings, forged pistons, and bearings.

I'm interested in the driver side bin as well as the motor covers if they are in decent shape and well priced.

If I get the motor it's just to push the car another 100k. I'll do chains guides and all the other stuff but I'm dying for a 3.0t so this will become a 2nd gas saver eventually
