Just took off my winter wheels and decided to finally give them a good cleaning before putting them away. They had 2 years of built up dirt and brake dust on the barrels as I did not clean the barrels last year.
I have been using Griots products for many years and HAD been happy with the products.
Anyway I sprayed on Griots Heavy Duty wheel cleaner on the insides of the wheel and let it dwell. Now these wheels are very dirty, completely black barrels. Did a scrub and rinsed and for the most part, most of the dirt and brake dust came off. There was brake dust residue left on and I thought this stuff was "burnt In" and was pissed with myself for being too lazy last year by not cleaning them. So I re-applied and scrubbed again, but the black remained.
Now I recently bought the Nanolex Wheel Cleaner and Iron Remover from Phil (Detailer's Domain) upon his recommendation. I bought this to prep my summer HRE's before ceramic coating the wheels with SiShield.
So I thought I might as well try the Nanolex, had nothing to lose except maybe wasting product. I was not too optimistic getting the brake dust off.
Sprayed on the Nanolex, let it dwell and as stated in the directions, it will turn red as it works. Used a soft boars hair brush and I was pleasantly surprised........ the ingrained brake dust came right off!
I re-washed my wheels with the Nanolex and there was a dramatic difference. The wheels appeared brighter with a more noticeable shine.
So, I will no longer buy the Griots Wheel Cleaner. The Nanolex is far superior IMHO!
Thanks Phil!
