Looking at new Q5, but the quattro "ultra" scares me, do I take the risk?

Not trying to be troll here, but I really don't trust the Audi/VW group when they introduce a new and overly complex technology like ultra (remember the failures of the original CVTs and DSGs). I am going to be swapping out my wife's A3 eTron wagon for something bigger, and the Q5 is an obvious choice (as well as the allroad). But that ultra really has me worried.....

Again, not trying to troll, but looking for some info to put my worries to rest. Otherwise I think we are more likely going to get the allroad.

Solution: Get a '17 model. There is probably some inventory holdover, or a very low mileage almost full warranty available. You get real Quattro. You can get the supercharged 3.0T mated to the 8 speed ZF. It's Germany-made, not Mexico.

Quattro ultra is also standard on the Allroad.

Ugh, Audi if forcing this damn technology across the model line. Damn.

Ultra isn't bad at all. I had it on a 2018 Allroad that I just traded for a new SQ5. The switching was imperceptible and I never had any issues with Ultra Quattro, even with snow or ice here in Colorado. I found that it mostly came on during cruising on the highway and during deceleration both during the best road and weather conditions. Nothing to fear, just a lot of Chicken Little "The sky is falling".
