Vibration in front seats after wheel change

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Could use some help with troubleshooting here...

I put my summer wheels on last week, RSe102 19x9.0 +45, on stock staggered wheels (255/235) and have since noticed a ton of vibration around 100km/hr and up. The vibration can be felt heavily in the front seats, a bit in the steering as well.

I used these tires briefly last summer (with stock wheels) when I purchased the car with no issue. I've double checked the tire pressure and torque settings on the lug nuts -- still no issue.

I'm wondering if fitting the stock 255/235 tires to these wheels could have caused them to stretch, which could be producing a vibration?

    Any thoughts or troubleshooting tips?

Most likely one/more wheel/tire is not balanced properly, get them road-force balanced at quality shop and check again. Also the wheel/hub are the same diameter, right?

Could also be wear characteristics--if you swapped them side-to-side and you're not aligned correctly, one may be worn more than the other.

Thanks! It does sound like that could be the issue. The wheels indicate a center bore of 57.1mm, assuming I just need a hub ring to fit those specs? Anything else I need to account for?

if your wheels have a 57.1 bore you should'nt need hubcentric rings.

I'd take Grigore's suggestion and have them road force balance them rather than a simple spin balance. I've had wheels that did that and went I got them redone via RF balancing, any vibes went away. Also check to make sure a weight didn't fly away. I've seen this happen on several occasions.

Correct. Probably going to need to visit a tire shop for a rebalance if this is the case. Definitely do Road Force, any decent tire shop has one now.

Thanks for the all of the recommendations, I'll look into having them rebalanced.

If you want to save time on shooting your problem just do a quick search on my username (started threads). I had a similar issue on my S3 and it took several trips to various places to nail it down. I had 3 shops check my balancing and at the end it was the hub centric (plastic rings). Your balancing machine will NEVER pick the "out of balance vibrations", like I said, it ended up being the hub centric.

I insist, save your time and search my post.

After checking out the site for your wheels, I agree with the hubcentric rings.

If you have the 19x9, this is what they say:

    Size: 19x9.0
    Offset (E.T.): +45mm
    PCD (Bolt Pattern): 5-112
Center Bore: 66.5mm / 57.1mm (with hub ring)
    Weight: 20.8 lbs.

If they are only 19x8.5, then you would not need hubcentric rings.

Confirmed that's the issue. I brought it in to the shop today to have it balanced. They said the issue is that the wheels do in fact require hubcentric rings.

Problem solved. For anyone encountering the same issue, these are the wheel specs:

    Size: 19x9.0
    Offset (E.T.): +45mm
    PCD (Bolt Pattern): 5-112
Center Bore: 66.5mm / 57.1mm (with hub ring)
    Weight: 20.8 lbs.

    Thanks everyone!
