1.8T Engine Oil - Spilled Oil While Topping Off

    Hello Audi Friends,

As the subject states I was trying to top off my 1.8T with some oil this morning, the dipstick registered a bit on the low side a few days ago, and ended up spilling the 1-galon jug of Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 I was using on the top of my engine bay (spark plug area, head, and probably dripped down from the head). It may have gotten into the coil pack + spark plug hole areas, and dripped off the sides of the 1.8T head (both passenger and drivers side).

I was able to contain most the mess with a shop rag and some paper towels, however besides using something like simple green degreaser to do some deep engine bay cleaning, is there anything else I should do for the short-term? Do I run the risk of damaging anything if I leave things as-is until I have some more time to clean the engine bay properly?

I think its fine. You might end up with a misfire if the coil bore is flooded. I would remove the coils, try to clean up as mush as possible with a rag, then remove the spark plugs, and clean again with rags. everything else will be fine getting oil on it. It will also burn on the exhaust manifold. I'd just make sure there arent any puddles on it and run the car to operating temps with the hood open.
