I barely post but I’m constantly browsing the forums. Creating this to try and become more active throughout and to also get some help since I’m not the most experienced. Might also make an instagram for the car once I get some more mods on it.

Just recently purchased a B7 A4 2.0t w/ Tiptronic (just under 140k miles). Serviced at Audi dealers it’s entire life (granted, just basic service). So far I’m enjoying it and hope to have it for a long time.

Not planning on doing anything too crazy, just necessary maintenance and mods as I can afford.

    So far:
Replaced Cam Follower. Not sure if it was the original, it wasn’t terribly worn, but did show some age.

    Replaced Purge valve

    Replaced Cabin Air Filter

Carbon Fiber wrapped the interior trim (might post a review thread)

    Blacked out the rear emblems

I have some copper spark plugs and an 034 Snub Mount on the way.

I believe it’s still on the original timing belt so I’m going to get that changed asap, so mods will be slow for a while.

Why run copper spark plugs in a non tuned car? You get no benefit and they wear out too quickly. Stick with platinum OEM like plugs. You could also argue that they really don’t do too much on tuned cars. Not enough to justify having to replace them so often.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the conductivity of copper plugs allows them to perform better than platinum on all cars? Isn't it usually beneficial for tuned cars to run a colder plug, not necessarily copper v. platinum?

The car could use new plugs and I picked up a set of NGK BKR7E for $7 so to me it's worth a shot. I've read that they have the same heat range as OEM plugs, as well as good reviews from guys on here that have run them. The car is not a daily so wear isn't my biggest concern for now, especially considering the price.

I appreciate your input and will definitely be going to platinum if these don't perform well or once they wear out.

All plugs have a copper core. The platinum or iridium coating just make them last longer. The reason why “copper” plugs wear out so quick is the high spots on the electrode wear down fast because the melting point is much lower than platinum or iridium coated electrodes. Better plugs will last longer and keep their gap longer.

If you want to continually have to replace your plugs prematurely, keep buying those plugs. Or you could just buy a platinum plug that will last over 50,000 miles. I really can’t think of one reason why anyone would want to run a “copper” plug in a modern ignition system unless its design specifically calls for one.

And if your 7 dollar plugs only last you 10,000 miles and a platinum plug lasts 50,000 miles, any savings you might get is negated and now you’re constantly under your hood changing plugs every oil change.

For the price and what I've read I felt like it was worth a shot. I also said I will be going back to platinum once these wear out.

Nothing too exciting. Been super busy with other things. Timing belt was done the other day at Red Line Speed Worx here in NJ. First time there, loved it. They did a multi-point inspection of the car and it appears to be mechanically sound but the technician working on it said it needs a new air filter and recommends a fuel filter. Planning on an aFe Pro Dry Filter, will be doing both of those myself in the upcoming week(s) depending on when I can get a hold of the parts.

I changed the spark plugs which improved the responsiveness of the car as well as a smoother idle. 034 Snub Mount install was a breeze and wasn't hard to slide in at all? I heard it was a pain and people would microwave it to soften it a little beforehand? Anyways, idle is a little smoother, responsiveness may have changed a tiny bit but nothing drastic, but shifts are a lot smoother especially in TIP mode where they're a little more crisp.

Cosmetic/bigger performance mods will occur more as service is completed and as funds allow. But I'm enjoying the mainly stock look for now. Will most likely refinish the badly curbed wheels and maybe get a set of spacers and leave it looking stock for a while.

Decided to stick with an oem paper filter and might do that stock airbox mod to see if i can get any more sound out of the turbo/intake. Will do the fuel filter later this week. Image1525812818.562564.jpg
(ripped the old filter when taking it out)

Here’s that vvivid vinyl carbon fiber wrap on the filler plate. Makes having the front license plate a lot more bearable.
