    About to drop the SQ

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello ya'll. New posting on the "Q" forum but have B7 A4 Avant since 08 so im a bit more frequent on that forum.

    Background on the SQ:

I bought my first SQ back in 2015, My original was (GIAC Tuned / AWE pulley / non res downpipes / exhaust / CTS intake) It completely sold me on the 3L

I traded out for a late model 2017 last summer. for some reason there was a updated ECU that was not supported by GIAC or many tuning companies yet. I go in tomorrow to get my ECU # and hopefully find a reputable tuner.

    2015

    2017

So my real question right now is: I am getting the KW HAS Kit installed tomorrow, as well as SPC control arms. Those who are lowered could you please measure F&R height from center of center cap to fender lip and post profile shots.

    Thank you!

When I went that low with my street comfort I got a lot of cabin squeaks. Anyone else experience that. Are the HAS systems softer? I feel SC are too hard even set to softest setting.

Only cabin squeaks I get are when I vent the sunroof, but if I open it up the squeaks disappear. So I usually leave it open to the second setting or just keep it closed.

What were your alignment specs after going that low? Did you go with control arms to correct? Im at the same height and worried about premature tire wear. But the $800 to upgrade just seems like more than i want to spend on such a minor correction.. that said, tires arent cheap either. I guess it depends on how fast the wear was actually happening. Havent had thr drop long enough to know. I need to dig out my alignment specs and see how they look again..

My thoughts have always been... I like my camber, as it gets me the fit and look I prefer. Let's say per set of tires... I give away 10-15% of the life due to camber. On a DWS that might be $150-$180? You get where I'm going. Takes a LOT of tires and miles to ever get there mathematically. But if someone wants perfect wear and correct camber, I get that for sure.

I share your opinion, and that was exactly the kind of justification I was trying to work out.. I'm not that low, and not so far off overall, especially considering incorrect toe is where the real tire where can be seen. I think I'll leave it alone, and put my money to something else!

Thanks for all the responses, it was very helpful. I dropped it off yesterday afternoon and ended up referencing a few photos you all posted as well as the TAG motorsports SQ5.

I was informed by my shop before that the camber wear on the tires would/could be severe and if i did not use adj. control arms to prevent the wear on the tires. I figured the money is well spent if I dont have to rotate often and or buy a new set of rubber. They highly recommended the SPC arms, and said they wouldn't even touch the 034 ones. According to MATRIX (the shop) the sets of 034 arms they tried in the past were very hard to adjust after installation, and would have to take them off, adjust, and re-install. Just a warning for people looking for control arms. Obviously thats there opinion, to each there own.

I had a few other things getting worked on including sway and mounts so the car should be done this afternoon and will post some photos up after i pick it up.

Thanks again for the photos and help.

Just trolling in the Q5 forum...I have the SPC on my A7 and they are much easier to adjust than the 034. My first set of DWS only lasted about 20k without - bad inner wear. You won't regret the purchase to get the front end squared up again. I hope to use all the info from this forum for my SQ future purchase...one day...

That is a lot of toe in up front with that much camber - almost -2* left front. And right front at -1.3*

I'd get a set of adjustable arms on that bad boy to bring camber back to an even amount.

Run a little less front toe in and watch those tires last forever.

Sorry for late camber spec post and photos. Have not had a chance to get a good place to take any quality shots yet, but ill post some when i do.

As I stated earlier the SQ went into the shop for a few improvements

KW HAS kit / SPC control arms / 034 Trans mount / 034 RSB / Uni Stg 1+

Car feels awake again and couldnt be happier with the stance. Ride quality has definitely suffered, but not like that ever stopped me. Had a little fun with a Macan GTS the other day, forgot how much power our cars have when you wake them up. I eventually will get to the pulleys and a few other details. After selling my 14' with Stg.II im not in a rush. I will play around with the uni tune for now and see how i like it compared to the GIAC tune I had on the 14'. Never had a Unitronic tune on any of my Audi's but have close buddies who have, so I figured what the hell. plus the reported figures looked pretty good.

I'm starting to get a spongy sound now when going over speed bumps or in/out driveways, coming from the rear driver's side. On the freeways it's ok cause of the regular road noise so I don' t really hear it as much.

What would be the first thing to check? Swaybars? Bump stops?

I don't see how the coils themselves could cause the noise.

I can pretty much promise you it's the bushings on the 034 RSB. They just need to be greased (and will again once or twice a year, or after driving in heavy rain).

Over the winter I hit a massive pothole (more of a crater) and feared my tires or wheels were toast. Somehow the wheels and tires survived, but the next day I heard a squeaking noise coming from the right rear every time I went over a bump in the road.

Turns out I blew out both my rear strut mounts. The repair was cheaper then getting new wheels/tires. My KW SC coils survived the impact.

I did hit a huge dip in the road that caused me to bottom out for the first time and it slowly started since then. Thanks I'll have to check that out to, thank you.

I'll check the fittings too on the RSB, I did pressure wash the undercarriage twice before I packed up all my garage stuff. Thanks

    Just to let you know...

EPL Stage 2 (SC pulley) is a serious upgrade over stock.

I had been using the Chipwerks Pro, which was nice but not much of an improvement. The EPL tune provides a nice smooth and powerful upgrade.
In Sport mode it is a beast... according to Tony and Chris, I will not have to flash back to stock for next spring's emission tests... another plus!
Family comes First!.... Nice cars a close second.

For topless Summer fun... 2013 Volcano Red S5 Cabriolet Prestige, Black Optics Grill, Rear Valance, Tint, IE Down Pipes... SOLD!

Semi-Daily Driver: 2016 A8L, Glacier White... Where to begin with the mods??? SOLD!

Yuuuge upgrade over stock. I'm EPL stage 2 with an APR pulley/CTS intake and it rips. I mix about 5 gallons of E85 with a 93 fill up. Helps with timing quite a bit. I think single pulley upgrades would even benefit from boost coolers. I notice a significant difference in consistant power on 90 degree days vs. a 65-70 degree morning.

Mine is lowered on H&R sports with Bilstein Sport struts/shocks. Ride quality is slightly stiffer than stock. Lowers about an inch all around.

Be glad. . .the tune for the B9's is $2,500 and is only good for 425/405. My gen.1 is 470/440. Yay superchargers!
