Question How much of body creak / creaking noises you have?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

After a couple moths I got my 2014 CPO B8.5 I've started noticing some weird noises. They are hardly noticeable when there is music playing or cruising on high speeds. When I got to a dealer, they told me it's okay, it just body creak and that's fine when a car gets older. But it is super annoying and makes you feel driving a long truck creaking at any blow of air. My car still has factory warranty and I really want them to look into this problem. Just a couple days back I drove thru a serpentine in a forest at like 30 mph. All these creaking/rubbing/freaking sounds are super noticeable. I pretty much don't hear them going straight, but sharp turns, going sidewise over bumps/driveways or when a road has changing camber giving me them 100%.

Could you please give me any advice? Maybe you know a good Audi service advisor in Bay Area who is really looking into and solving customer's problems?

Btw I've recently driven a loaner - A4 2018 2.0 and ofc it is super silent car w/o any "normal" creaking sounds.

    Thank you!

Back passenger door creak is the main one.

I get the odd dash noise as well. I've jammed so much felt tape on the main dash plastic piece and that helped.

I've had pretty bad squeacking noise since the first day. It was coming from a back right handle in the celing so they've identified and replaced it for a new one (they said it became loose). But all those minor creaks still remain. And when there are a lot of minor creaks they are not minor anymore.

Try using clear non-silicone caulk on the back...worked wonders for me, no creaks. Applies, white, dries clear

Adjust the striker plate on the frame (the latch the door hooks into when closed). Adjust it a few mm inward and it will hold the door tighter and prevent rubbing of the weather seals.

When loosening the 2 bolts that hold the striker plate, do not remove them! They might fall behind. Just loosen slightly. [Unconfirmed but this is something I've read online that can happen].

I had the dealer adjust my striker plate under warranty and the creaking was gone for a solid 2.5 years. It just came back lol. Best 2.5 years of my life.

I tried this too but I didn't feel any play in any direction on the plates. Unless I'm totally missing something, mine simply do not move like that. The plates don't have slotted holes.

My rear seat to striker has a ever so slight vibration/buzz that I hear every once and a while. Its RPM dependant bases on the resonation of the exhaust coming through the body. I only found out where it was coming from be I was rising in the back seat on a rode trip. I am thinking a small dab of thick grease on the striker might help.

It's a steel unibody. They flex, especially with age. Plastic's properties change over time, meaning they flex less and rattle more. If you want to get rid of the noises you're describing, either cage it (it won't flex anymore, not practical for most), install braces (CR15, AK, etc), or install sound dampening or a louder stereo (which will mean taking interior panels apart, creating more noises/rattles, or your new speakers rattling everything loose themselves).

In that case, how come my previous car (Ford Focus) same age same mileage was super comfortable, silent w/o any squeaks and creaks?

I have a 2016 S4 with 40,000 km (approx 30,000 miles) and the creeks and rattles are definitely noticeable. I recently sold a 2011 BMW 328 and have a 2012 Cayman and both those cars felt much more solid than the S4.

That said, the rattles are bearable and not really an issue when the music is on. Bottom line: I still love the car and enjoy driving it.

Add another for noisy rear door seals, or possibly the rear window seals. Tried cleaning them all and applying gummipflege, but made no difference.

I have a low mileage 2015 S4 and the back (seems like passenger area) creaks when i go over undulations or train tracks (for example) all the time. Super annoying. Will see if it's the rear door jamp adjustment and go from there.

I had a lot of creaking over speed bumps, driveways etc. The dealer actually replaced my lower control arms. It seemed to help but I'm honestly not sure if that was the problem or a placebo. I got a CR-15 brace and that helped immensely, I have an AK too that I haven't installed yet. As for rattles I have plenty too but haven't attempted to really address them yet. I believe there's a TSB for the rear shelf rattle which is probably the worst one I have, I may have the dealer look at that as well.

before you adjust the door jam, try a few wraps of plastic electrical tape around the the door jam. It worked well on my 2000 BMW.

Plenty of rattles coming from back seat area since i purchased CPO at 31k miles. At 58k miles now and rattles keep adding up all from rear area. New creaks in rear now sound like its coming from left and right ceiling area.

This thread is concerning. I don't really have any significant issues, but the roads around here are excellent. Both my B5 and B6 were solid well past 100k (although, the B6 developed something in the left cowl area when I installed the stiffer C/O's).

You might have the same rear seat vibration/sound that I have. I am going to try PTFE grease. All the sound is on mine is the striker and latch vibrating just a hair making a sound so the grease should help. I will report back.

Have you tried simply treating them with 303 Protectant? ... although with those other coatings on there it may be difficult to get good results.

FWIW, I have always been told to never put anything on the weatherstrips or they will squeak. No idea if this was just urban legend or not, but I've always followed this advice.

Keep trying all kinds of things. The teflon spray worked the best but squeaks still came back. Need to go back to square one if I can manage to get them cleaned off. My wife stole my Invisible Glass or I'd have done it already...

Possibly. For sure its somewhere in the back. I remember reading awhile ago someone having some parts replaced/adjusted in the trunk where the trunk rests on when closed. Thanks

I'll look into it again. The last time I messed with it I am pretty sure I ruled it out to being the rear doors. The creaks would still happen if windows were down but not if doors were not latched all the way.

The noise isn't bad, not a tinny or rattly sound. More like a very deep low freqency creaking. And just when the car is getting twisted at an angle on driveways and bumps on one side of car and such.

Do you get noise with hood open? if not try some felt tape on the four plastic hood bumpers. That was the fix for my creaking noise.

I have the door seal rattles. Gummi pfledge helps mine for a few months at a time. Door seal on driver's side was replaced under warranty 1 year in but it didn't make a difference. The B8 is definitely much creakier than my B6 even after it was repaired when a deer went through windshield and folded back a foot of my roof. From day one, the B6 felt like a much more solid car.

no creaks on my 2012, but it developed quite an annoying buzzing in the driver's door. took it all apart, think it was a wiring harness rattling against the plastic. zip tied some stuff and put sound deadening in there wherever I could fit it. it went away now
on a car that is quiet as these (unless you have some rowdy exhaust droning away) you really notice any rattles and squeaks

The seals and stops on the trunk are surprisingly noisy as well. I had a bunch of creaks, groans, and pops, especially when driving slow and the car frame twists or gets knocked by small bumps.

I coated all seals and stops on the trunk with a bit of krytox and holy crap it is way quieter.

Had no idea they could produce that many noises, I had thought my suspensions bushings were going bad.

The metal grate in the fuel filler pipe rattles and I have no idea how to remove it.

I have the sunroof squeak/rattle.... everyone says I’m insane but it wasn’t there when I bought the car.
Otherwise I get a little suspension noise in the rear when going over speed bumps

    +1. 2014 S4 with 30k on the clock.
Drivers door squeaks quietly (possibly weather sealing)
    Passanger doors rattle.

Rear drivers side door used to vibrate like crazy on a cold start but that seems to have somehow sorted itself out. Not heard it in months.

Last bit of noise is gone after lubing the hood latch mechanism and contact points.
