    S4 John's 2012 TTRS Build Thread

    Hey guys!

I wanted to introduce myself to this end of the forum. I am a long time B5 S4 owner, I've had/have a Brilliant Black, Imola and a Nogaro Avant. I've been looking at MK2 TTRS' for a little bit now, and I initially thought I wanted Sepang (all my cars are blue). But, then I stumbled upon Panther Black. Once I saw one in person, I knew I had to have it. I found a really clean example from New Orleans with only 21k miles. It was owned by a Doctor and was always dealer serviced. A couple weeks later, my dad and I flew down and made the 1,300 mile road trip home to the North East. The car is truly amazing and it brings a smile to my face every time I fire her up.

A few maintenance items need to be knocked out first. But, I can't wait to get wrenching on it!

Welcome, I've also purchased an identical low mileage car, the Panther Black is really the correct name for the pearl effect on this car. In the sunlight it really pop with hews of looking purple depending on the angle of view. The car is a beast even when just stock, what are your plans for the car?

Hey! Nice ride. You need to join the TTRS facebook group. A lot more activity from fellow RS owners.

Thanks man! It is such a unique color. I am not 100% sure yet how far down the rabbit hole I will go. I am also still modding my B5. So progress will be slow. But, I am definitely looking at an exhaust, UM tune, dog bone, shifter bushings and an MSSKit to start. I'd love to do an Iroz turbo kit someday. But, we will see.

Hey guys! Just wanted to provide an update on some progress. I've been able to do a lot of mods this year. Most of which came from EvilEvo (massive thank you)!

    New Mods:
    E-codes
    MSSKits
    034 Rear sway bar
Girodisc front rotors and Carbotech pads
    034 X34 Intake
    CTS Downpipe
    Corsa Exhaust
    CTS Intercooler
    UM Tune
    P3 Boost Gauge

Things to install: Forge inlet and diverter valve and an 034 Dog bone mount.

Next thing on the list is wheels and a clutch! Some pics from Avantoberfest this year:

Awesome build thread, just wanted to follow up with you.. Did you get a clutch installed? Was it slipping? I'm wondering how good the stock clutches are in handing power when tuned, since audi/vw clutches are notorious to slip.

Thanks man! I have not installed a clutch yet. That is likely later this year. I’m running a UM tune at 21-22 psi. It has not started slipping yet. It should hold at this level of boost just fine from my understanding.

We are getting to fun part now! I just acquired the new heart for my TTRS. This was built by Kevin (acostabuiltofficial) on IG who is VR6 swapping his TTRS (many thanks Kevin ). I was incredibly fortunate to come across his engine and it is spec'd insanely well.

    Engine Internals:
    Supertech Valve Springs/Retainers
    Supertech Valves
    Diamond Pistons
    Pauter Rods
    ACL Rod Bearings
    Iroz Head Gasket
    ARP Hardware
    Iroz Secondary Fueling Kit

Build progress will be pretty slow since I need to acquire a ton of other parts.

Hey! Fellow B5'er!!! I am leaning towards going full frame with a IMS850S kit. I am going to speak with them some point soon to ensure it fits my overall goals. The IMS850 kit uses the XonaRotor 8264S.

My TTRS is currently at Redline Motorworks in Maryland to get its heart transplant. I did go fullframe with an IMS850 kit and ton of supporting mods.

Stock direct injectors. I’ll go with some injector dynamics for the port.

Quick photo dump of some of the progress. UM finalized a custom tune with the stock fueling. The car feels pretty strong for only running on 5 injectors. I'm going to continue to drive it around to sort it all out before turning up the boost.

I also put in my dream set of seats (recaro pole positions), Cloude9 rear seat delete panel, and stern net. I have the passenger seat all ready to go. I am just waiting to figure out the occupancy sensor. I ordered a used seat bottom to transfer over the sensor.

Those seats looks great! I'm contemplating which turbo I should get currently. What was the reasoning on the stock fuel system? I remember Fred at UM mentioned something about using E85 but I would think upgrading the system would be beneficial.

Thanks man! From my research there are not many safe/proven setups to run MPI and I wanted a stock ecu tune to break everything in. I have a syvecs unit ready to go once I feel comfortable.

Very nice rebuild. Mine is a 2013 TTRS in ibis white. Other than a UM tune the car is stock. Bummed that APR and 034 have pulled their DPs off the market. Are you satisfied with the CTS setup? Did you purchase the MSS street or track springs? Any other suspension mods? I’m going to install the Tyrol front stiffening kit and not sure whether to upgrade the ARBs or not. Any thoughts?

I did like the CTS setup. From my understanding it is very similar to 034’s.

I have the MSS street springs. I do like them a lot as I always thought the OEM suspension was too harsh. I just have a rsb in addition to the spring right now.

Just curious, did you do anything to defeat the airbag fault for your seat? Did you have a special reason for installing the open CAI versus closed?

I’m in the process of working that out. I bought an occupancy sensor delete and resistors for the airbag.

The intake was a custom made 4” titanium piece by redline. It was made to connect the Iroz inlet which was oversized. I do want to shroud it. So that will be a future project.
