    SAI ECU code removal

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

My secondary air pump has a short somewhere in the circuit, and I was wondering if it's possible to just code out the ECU light instead of fixing it? I feel like I've heard of people doing it, but I've never seen how, or if it'll pass smog afterwards. Anyone done this and still passed smog?

    Thanks,
    Sam

Wondering this too (well not the emissions part). Saw a SAI elimination kit at JHM. What are the benefits?

I'm on the same boat. My pump has gone and I've been looking to remove the system as a whole.

I contacted APR about removing SAI ECU codes with their tune but they don't do that. I contact JHM as well and although their tune is capable of removing the CEL, you have to purchase their full tune. They don't offer just an "SAI removal tune".

My SAI failed and instead of replacing it, I just got the jhm tune with the delete (extra $50) with my money instead, and it was well worth it, a no brainer. Also if you go catless (like I am) the SAI is pointless anyway from my knowledge and you'll need the tune regardless if you want to remove the CEL

not getting a JHM tune just for my SAI, I am getting it tuned out on my own tune, but I will end up getting the JHM plates.

Very curious about what you mean by “my own tune”. Do you have access to tuning software/ ECU? Could give a quick summary on how someone would accomplish this?

Had a custom tune made for me. I didn't do it myself, had someone do it for me.

I spoke with Malone Tuning. They provide a standalone option for SAI delete as well as other items for $349.

This might be the best option if you are not going for a full on tune.

The only problem is that if you decide to get a tune by another vendor then their tune would need to include SAI removal and other options because their tune would over write the Malone tune.

I myself am only going for SAI removal and X-pipe to replace front resonator/silencer. Don’t plan on getting crazy for several years.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like tuning to remove the CEL is possible, but in my own research, I found that it will NOT pass smog in CA, because the SAI readiness monitor will show 'not ready'. I'm not sure how VCDS Lite can be made to show 'pass' for the SAI - any input there? Anyway, I just fixed the short going to my air pump, and it seems to be working fine now.

I can personally chime in and say I had issues with my secondary air injection small leak detected forever and just ended up getting the jh tune and it pretty much just shows cat and air injection Monitors as ready all the time passed smog no problem here in Sacramento.

Awesome, maybe I'll try the JHM tune if it keeps giving me issues.

Is it possible to long code the sai delete or is it only possible when doing a tune?

    Resurrecting an old thread,

Has anyone removed the wiring that runs around the back of the 4.2L all the way around to the ecu? The cover for one of the shared grounds that run to the SAI, AND the power from the relays under the ECU has completely decayed and being so brittle has just all gone. This caused the 40AMP fuse to melt. Being that the ground shares the other ground (Ground under coolant bottle) its causing codes and problems all over from misfires, to speed sensors, ignition issues, blah blah. I went into this project fully prepared to replace ALL the wires (not knowing where the red power wire went) but as soon as I saw that they both go to the SAI plug, I can just cut and pull them through and remove them all together no?? I've replaced the 40AMP Fuse and the 614 Relay (Fuel Pump Relay)

I believe the bad grounding of the wiring was causing the fuel pump relay to heat up until it stopped working, killing the pump, stalling the car...

If I’m understanding the question right. When my fuel pump went out i went from the cheapest fix to eventually changing a new fuel pump. But in between my inspections i notice that the orange 40amp fuse was the bridge was broken. I would then replace it and kept on braking the bridge. Then someone informed me that if you have a tune with the SAI delete that pretty much is the cause of that fuse going out, but no CEL. So the fuse is pretty much paper wait now *IF you have the SAI delete tuned out. And the SAI system is completely removed from the car when I did my timing.

As to the question about passing emissions have the SAI delete tune out. Yes I pass emission here in Colorado :)

I'm not sure if there is a tune on the car previously.. I have no way of knowing this. How do I know if there was a previous tune? I have since removed the wires out of the equation (I've already removed the SAI pump and hoses), cleaned up the ground and it idles alot smoother. BUT it still stalls on me after 10-20 mins. The 614 Relay under the ECU AND the 614 relay behind the fuse box in the drivers footwell are HOT...

Any idea why this is...? I looked at the fuel pump itself under the rear seats and it's clean and the wires are in great shape (no possible visual shorts)

    Confused....
