Airbag cover has chrome rubbing off

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue? The square chrome piece that outlines the Audi rings on my airbag cover is starting to wear away. Is there anyway to just get the cover piece or is it all attached to the airbag as one piece? Do you think it would look like trash if I painted or plasti-dipped the rings and square piece matte black like the black optics package comes? Any ideas or solutions welcome.

One of the cars I recently test drove while searching for my B8 was the same way. It also had the red rubbed off the S4 logo. I just assumed the previous owner had some bad fidgeting habits.

Have you used some aggresive cleaners?

I haven’t but I got the interior of my car detailed so that I could get the salt off my floor board carpets and I’m guessing the guy who did the detail may have. The first week the chrome was shiny as could be then it had a smudge and I wiped it with my thumb and the chrome wiped away

i'm having the same issue and the clear coat on the audi rings is peeling... terrible quality. in for a good solution

i've seen an old thread where someone taped off the square chrome piece and spray painted or plastidipped it. i would prefer to just refresh the airbag cover
