What can you tell me about these brake pads...

I assume the fronts would be the same... looking to switch to a less dusty pad if possible...

I believe those are the OEM/Manufacturer recommended... look at the Hawk HPS street pads, same level of noise but I've heard much less dust.

Can't tell you what you have but Akebono have little to no dust. Soooooooo much better. I thought I would have to buy stock in Eagle 1 as I was using so much

EBC Red stuff pads. No competition when it comes to bite and dust.

I use EBC Red Stuff on the rears. Dusting isn't bad at all but I'd think front brakes would be a better indicator since that's where most of the braking is done. Unfortunately (for the sake of this thread anyway) I have ceramic fronts.

I went EBC RedStuff on all 4 sets of pads. So far SIGNIFICANT reduction in dust and only notice a slightly drop in bite. Noise is gone too.

Highly recommend for the price! Order through ECS Tuning for a discount for being a forum member.

I have Ferrodo DS3500 on the front and Hawk 5.0 on the rear. The Hawk don't dust too bad but the Ferrodo's are slightly worse.

EBC redstuff are a solid pad especially for the money.

I prefer my Hawk HPS 5.0 to EBC though (yes, I’ve tried both). More expensive, but great wear rate, very quiet, minimal dust, and fantastic bite.

Hawk HPS and now 5.0 have been my "go to" pads for years. Low dust, great bite, no fade.

Saw a guy do a review on this. I think he stated that it has a better bite.

I'm a big fan of Red Stuff based on previous cars--virtually no dust, quiet, and good bite. Have not tried them on the Audi yet...

So between EBC Red Stuff and Hawk HPS5... what has lower dust? and what would you pick overall?

Most likely a crap shoot. I'd look at the specs, if available, and make a guesstimate based on those. It's tough to compare brake pads as most change them fairly infrequently and not back to back. Especially on a daily driver It's fairly rare that one would swap various brake pads in short order, enough so to have an opinion on quantifiable differences (opinion or otherwise) between two pads. I wish I had the time and disposable income to test various pads back to back.

What can you tell me about these brake pads...

I have the Hawks HPS 5.0. Mated them brakeperformance.com slotted/dimpled rotors. I don’t like the pads. I had really high expectations since these were highly recommended by a few members on AZ and was really excited to try the new material. I don’t think the bite is all that great. They’re also noisy and squeaks a lot. The braking is spongy.

Going from oem rotors and pads, which were almost near 5% of life left, I honestly don’t feel that much of a difference with the new set up. Maybe squeak a little less but it still feels spongy. Not sure about brake dust for the 5.0. I had them installed on Wednesday and haven’t washed my car yet. I’ll be cleaning them tomorrow and see how it dust is. I really feel like I wasted $1000 on parts and labor for the new set up though. Oh well. I’ll be going back to oem.

I'm really surprised to hear your poor review of the Hawk pads. I have always been very pleased with Hawk products. I have to ask, did you follow the recommended break in procedure? Clicky click®

As to any noise from the pads, I have used this stuff for decades whenever I change pads and I have never heard a peep out of a brake pad.

Had a reputable shop install them, also recommended from members on AZ. The mechanic bedded them in. I’d be surprised if they messed up installing brakes. What is the recommended brake in procedure? Like you said, I’ll give it another few weeks or so. But again not very impressed with the bite of these HPS 5.0.

Check the Clicky click®. The purpose of the brake-in procedure is to put a deposit of brake pad material on the rotor. Go ahead and do it yourself. I suspect it may make a noticeable difference.
