    Hi !

I'm in need of some Ignition Coil advice

    My 1.8T have the Audi/VW part # 06B 905 115 R Ignition Coils.

Now I have some trouble with two of them and I was thinking I should replace them all but to what ?

Should I just repalce with the same or should I looking for some other version ?
    // Regards from Sweden.

The Audi part number is good, since you are in Sweden, there are probably plenty of aftermarket replacements available and s/b around $100 USD. In the USA we have Ebay and preferrably Amazon and here is what that part number search returned to me

I have no trouble finding where to buy the Ignition Coils !

According to Audi/VW dealer the version that I have # 06B 905 115 R is not valid any more !
    It's superseeded with # 06B 905 115 D which is the latest version.

...but on many Audi/VW Forums I read that many owners of 1.8T engines recommends and prefer the bolt down type of Ignition Coil # 06B 905 115 E instead.
( That part # is still valid )

Can someone enlighten/explain more for me ?

They have the same price, so the price is not crucial.

Get the R8 coils with code 06E905115E together with a spacer, they won't fail under boost or heat even on bt setups

Coil packs used to be a common problem with the earlier B6 1.8T's. I went through several revisions before I purchased a set of D's which is still the latest "official" coil pack. I installed them back in 2009 and they have performed flawlessly ever since. Clicky click®. I ran them with the GIAC big injector file and I am still running them today with my current F21L set-up.

R8 coil packs and hold downs will certainly work but on a stock or lightly modified 1.8T I really don't think it will make any performance difference at all. Same price? Go for it. Otherwise the D's will perform just fine.

I agree w/OG ^^^ Go with the D's. Been using "D" version (w/sidefire Bosch plugs) for years on my GTRS Stage 3 and have had no problems.

Post-recall 3.0L coils might end in 'M'. I wonder if it's just because they're red, to look cool on a V6 engine where they're visible.
Whereas black or grey ones on a 1.8T, are hidden underneath the engine cover up top.

Curious to know how OP figured out his have issues.

Currently running NGK Iridiums on a stock engine.
I feel like I've seen those bolt-down ones on older Audis. B5 1.8T, 2.7T, etc.
