2005 S4 cylinder head and intake manifold removal

    Hi,

I searched stickies and YouTube. I've located a crate motor to replace my current 108K mile original.

Before sending the old one to the scrap heap, I'd like to keep the old cylinder heads and intake manifold for re-sell or to keep.

Is there a walk-through on this for tools required and steps? Anything else I should grab before the old motor crosses the rainbow bridge?

I would give myself a pre-novice rating when it comes to mechanical capability.

    Hey Dave.

So In order to remove the cylinder heads, you will need a long triple square bit ( can't remember if it's a m10 or m12.) To remove the head bolts. I'd suggest 3 or 4 inch minimum length. Better buy the whole set to work on the car. You'll need it. You re going to need a couple GOOD t30 bits to remove the camshafts. You'll break a couple so buy more than you need. I broke 6. The camshaft adjusters take a m14 triple square I believe. You'll have to remove the chains to remove the heads.

At work so that's all I can type. Lol

Look up the timing guide thread. It will have everything you need to get to the heads. Time consuming but not real tough. I did my guides last year. Not a bad idea to buy the Bentley manual also. Worth the money!

Thanks so much for this feedback - I'll look into your suggestions!
