    Hi all,
New to forum as I am trying to gain as much knowledge as possible while I shop for a S4/S5 convertible.
I found what seems to be an intriguing listing. Hopefully you all can offer your opinion whether this is a good buy or not.
2006 S4 Cab in dark blue/white interior. Seems to be very well taken care of with only 68K miles.
The interesting part is that there is a new motor (less than 5K miles) in the car put in by Audi (with warranty, I believe).
    Asking $11,900.
    Nice price or crack pipe?

New motor? No crack pipe. Old motor and no chains done? Smoking crack.

Interesting. I will have to pursue this a bit more. I want to see some details on the “new motor”. Going to see it tomorrow.

The basic things you want to look out for on any 4.2 S4 is going to be timing chain rattle on Startup, oil consumption, and while rare: torque converter slipping if an auto (or hunting as its called) and bad syncros on the manual.
If the engine was replaced with a NEW engine, you're golden. A factory longblock costs around 10 grand. If it was a wrecking yard "new"motor, then hopefully it doesn't have scored cylinder Walls and/or chain rattle on startup. Make sure the car is cold when you start it if possible.

OK, so can someone please educate me real quick on why this 2006 S4 Cabriolet looks like a B6? It has the upper and lower grilles, and not the gaping maw of the B7. Everything I have read says that S4s Cabs from 2004-2005 are B6s while 2005-2009 Cabs were B7.
Is it possible the 2006 S4 Cabriolet is still a B6 while the sedan and wagons are B7s or is there something fishy going on with this used car?

I see. So that means the old style grille means the car is still a B6. At least as far as I can tell from the wiki it seems that the B7 was not much more than cosmetic with some other mechanical updates later in 2007. Oh well, I guess that's part of why these cars are going so cheap.
