ran into trouble replacing my axles...noticed the bearing was completely shot....so I went to advanced and they sold.me a bearing and hub assembly but come to find out there is not a hub and bearing assembly to unbolt to bolt what advanced sold me....so what is it exactly I need? I have a 2.7 manual pre-facelift....do I just buy a bearing by itself?

Bearing by it self needs to be pressed in on the hub. Most shops will do that for you for a small fee if you take your hub assembly to them.

after pulling it apart and getting the old bearing out...it looks like this is the direct replacement...but this says that it isn't for a 2000 a6...it says for late 90's 2.8 models and for 2001 and up 2.7 allroad models...but not mine....I'm so confused why do they say these bolt in hub and bearing assemblies fit my car when theyou actually dont??

That looks like the right one for the steel uprights on a pre-facelift. The new bearing needs to be pressed into the upright, then the hub into the new bearing ...
