First, I want to say thank you guys and gals for providing an incredible community to learn from. Next I want to say a little about myself, so you have an idea of my experience and qualifications (I have neither) and the history of this build.
I own a small car stereo shop and have been in this business for quite some time. I work on everything, from junkers to elite. If I can make a dollar, I will. So, when I started getting "the itch" for something new (my buddy got a new car) and I've always wanted to rebuild a motor , I started thinking, what is a vehicle that is overall a pita to work on while doing stereo style work (tightness of paneling & etc.)? My head went straight to something German made. So I start paying a little more attention to german cars on the road. I saw a newer Q7 or something like it and feel in love with the shape of it. I loved the shape of the taillights and headlights (now that I pay attention, Audi's have the sexiest lights). So, thats when I fell in love with something other than Toyota. I knew I wanted something older, higher miles, and something I could learn on. I wasn't really in any hurry to find something, but I did catch myself looking while I was looking for my daughter her first vehicle. I came across 2008 Audi A4 B7 S Line that the owner had some nice wheels on (Rotiform), it had a nice stance, pretty high mileage (198,000), just an great appearance from every angle (most cars have a great appearance at one angle but look terrible at a different angle), and a perfect price for basically something I could destroy while learning. I bought it and instantly started modding it, tuning, and upgrading or replacing everything I had to touch getting to something faulty or around something faulty. I'm extremely OCD with having my personal vehicles as correct (no rust, dents, squeaks, etc.) funtional (features work), reliable as possible, but still look "me". During this phase, I got addicted to speed because my cars have always been low and slow and now I had a Stage 1 tuned car that had some pep. Well, after hours of reading and researching I decided to buy a "cheap" 2.7l out of a 2001 A6 that came with most of the engine including the turbos. My original plan was to just get it cleaned up and throw it in. Hahaha, yeah right. The motor is completely disassembled and a lot of it is at a local machine shop being cleaned and inspected. I have bought pretty much an entire front end off random A6s' and S4s' throughout the U.S. because of my original plan. That plan went out the window, because my OCD wouldn't allow me to just "settle" when I knew there were so many things I do with this motor. Plus, it was out of a car and I couldn't think of a better time to learn more and just "do it right the first time". I'm shooting for 500 to 600 hp and comfortable enough to drive. The first list is what I have already done to the car and is staying after the swap. The second list is the performance parts I already have in my possession or being built, the third is engine and other engine parts, and the fourth is what I know I'm needing/wanting/missing. This project/toy/lesson/hobby has turned into a massive money pit. If anyone has any suggestions, info, ideas, things to expect, or parts they would like see go to a great home, PLEASE, PLEASE, show some love and let me know. I'll include my name, email and number at the bottom of the post.
