Does anyone know if the 3.0 front o2 sensors are interchangeable with any other model? I expect the 2.8 and maybe the 2.7t. My local junkyards don’t have any 3.0s

Try it, just splice it in if the connector is different.

It’s a really crappy job to do the sensors. Why not just go aftermarket they would last longer?

Based on another thread here about swapping O2 sensors, there's a resistor in the plug end that is "paired" to the sensor. If you splice it in without also using the plug, the sensor may not work right.

I'm assuming that the op is getting a used one at a fraction of the cost of a new one. That being said why not take a chance with splicing?

If it's the primary O2, it could cause fueling issues as the car wouldn't have the right AFR if the sensor isn't reporting properly.

first pic is a wideband, second is narrowband, no way can you cut and splice, get one from any wideband vw/audi 1.8t 2.0 vr6 3.0 if there is excess wire length just ziptie it up, most of the new ones cover a few part numbers anyway and the wires are for the longest application and come with zipties to tie up the excess anyways.

edit there is also the 2.7t BEL code engine in the 03-05 a6 and allroad, I believe those are wideband as well.

Yeah it’s a pain but I’ve had a hairline crack in the passenger side exhaust manifold since I bought the car, so they only last about 8 months or so before they burn out. I pulled the last one out of a junkyard car and it lasted about a year before it gave.

So do you think I can just spice any vw/audi wideband with my old connector? Most likely a 1.8 or 2.0 since they’re abundant around here

Connectors are all the same, just make sure the wire length of the one you get is the same or longer than your original sensor.

As someone who has experimented with "cheaper" oxygen sensors, do yourself a favor and just buy the bosch sensor. Its not worth the headache of changing it again in a couple thousand miles cause it fails early. I changed both front o2's last year (I know swear on changing in pairs) and went with NTK sensors to save a couple bucks. NGK makes these so I figured I'd be good, since Im a fan of NGK spark plugs. Well, 5k later and my drivers side failed. Thankfully it was the drivers side and not passenger (much easier to change) and I was able to swap it out in about 25 minutes.

Moral of the story, go with a bosch sensor and be done and never worry again. Rockauto has them for $95. Just go that route. You'll thank me later.
