    Wrap or not wrap downpipes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
There have been some interesting comments in the various threads about downpipes in this forum.
So my question is mostly for those who have wrapped their downpipes.
Is the wrap absorbing any under hood or road debris over time?
Did the wrap affect installation in any way?

I am doing AMS or the Russian DPs with cats on my car soon. This is my first turbo car that I have decided to mod. I have always used ceramic coated headers on my NA builds due to the coating being applied inside the tubes. This is not an option on the DPs due to the cats being integral to them.

    TIA

You could also just have them thermal ceramic coated

Ceramic coating prep and application does not let it be done on pipe that has the catalytic as an integral part. If possible, ceramic coating is by far the best option, but just cannot be done in this application(this is according to shop that did my last set of headers with coating).

That coating does not appear to be applied to the inside of the pipes, so a comment about that would be appreciated.
The AMS Downs, most likely, cannot be coated by any product in this category. I have seen the surface prep that is required before the coating in applied and they simply cannot isolate the cats during this process. Pipes have to be separate pieces. AMS is my only solution for Stage II due to emissions where I live.

Not trying to jack anyone's thread but 3700$ for downpipes which will also required the rest of the cat ack system is just absurd.

All depends on your goals and the budget set forth. This car is no different than other platforms I have played with. The headers, ceramic coated, and mid-pipes with cats for my Z06 cost a hair north of $2K and that is a MUCH bigger market of sales than Audi S6/7 and RS6/7 parts. The AMS downs are $3K and the similar ones from Russia are $2200. Pricey, but in the world of Audi parts, probably a good price for the low volume these companies are most likely seeing.

Oh, the downs do bolt up to my OEM Audi Sport exhaust. You are thinking of some popular exhaust, aftermarket, for these vehicles.
