35k mile service. Which would you choose?

So I’m coming up on 35k Miles on my ‘14 DSG. Made a couple calls and local dealer originally said $1000 then called me back and said it’s actually around $800 or so.

Called nearest reputable tuner shop with very good reputation and they want $1000 for the service.

So price in same ballpark. Would you stick with dealer for Indy shop wasn’t cheaper?

I’m EPL Stage 2 so I’d have to flash to stock to go to dealer which is not a huge deal.

What exactly are you doing for your 35k service? Just the dsg service right? Both filters and fluid?

All indy shops i've checked quoted around $500. So the prices you are getting seem a little high?

Sounds like the indie shop is ripping you off buddy. Most indie shops around here will charge around 5-$600 for the 35k

You can get the oil and filter kits for $300. Just to give you an idea on parts. I watched a video on how to do it. Doesn’t look like a major job for a shop at all.

My Indy shop quoted 650 bucks for 75K and 85K service, I think 75K is the same as 35K

So hard to find a trustworthy indie shop, but then again same can be said about dealerships. But at least with dealers, you have service records, which is always nice to have if you ever decide to sell the vehicle

I too believe 35k and 75k are the same, and I paid $728 for the 75k service at my Audi dealer.

A reputable indie shop here said they'd charge $500ish for the 35k job. The thing is, doesn't Audi care cover it? If you get Audi care, it would cover 35k and 45k, right? And Audi care is like $869. So I guess you could say that you'd save a bit.

Unless Audi care @ 35k is totally different than the 35k Jon requirements.

Umm...flashing back to stock won't save you from getting flagged. Audi can tell if you've been tuned. And the service manager can't save you either. No matter how tight you are with him.

Just a thought...if you are finding that your local indie shops are charging same or more...then might as well go to the dealer for paperwork purposes. An Audi service document at Audi would speak higher to the next buyer than a local shop (unless that local shop is VERY well known across the US as a premium shop). At some point in your warranty you will have to try the flashback...it’s a risk but so was tuning under warranty. I’d rather have dealership paperwork for resale...problem is most consumers don’t understand that it’s the tech that makes the difference not the sign on the front of the building, laziness is everywhere including dealerships. This is only my personal opinion and you should do what makes you feel most comfortable. The good part is you are servicing your vehicle so points right there!

Just had the timing chain TSB done under warranty ($4000 repair). They scanned the car and it passed a TD1 check (service actual?) because I was tuned back to stock by the apr dealer.

The more I read posts like this the more I want to tune... too bad I don't see enough of these feel good posts about not being flagged TD1 while tuned and flashed back to stock... It's such a crap shoot being under warranty and tuned but good to hear you didn't get TD1!

that is a reason why many of us bought Audi care.the cost of the 35k service almost pays for it. Unfortunately my dealer insists under Audi care the 35k service must be done at year 4, no matter what the mileage on my car.I probably will have only around 24,k miles. Service is done on yearly basis.but the cost of the DSG fluid change is the reason audicare is worth the price.

Most people put 12-15k miles/year at a minimum. They are demanding people wait until 50-60k miles to do the 35k maintenance?

No no no. I think he meant they recommend 35k miles/4 years, which ever comes first.

This is my current situation as well. Car is at 34k miles, though it's 5 years old. I'm considering buying Audi Care 'Select' from FD warranty to avoid some taxes (he can't budge on Audi care price, it's the same as dealership, but you can look to save on tax). The package would cover 35k and 45k, then I'd just go indie shop after for anything major as I can handle the small stuff myself like oil, brakes/rotors, spark plugs. Also, I think I'd want it for the brake fluid flush (if they do it) . I don't want to deal with that.

For those in the know, does the dealership do free software and firmware updates, and map updates? Or of course, is it paid?

Yes Audi dealer says 35k miles or 4 years which ever comes first . Get software up dates and TSB done free if in warranty. 2106 get 5 map updates for nav, but earlier years you pay for map updates.

My car is not CPO and not under warranty. It’s a 2014 with about 32k Miles. Can I still buy audicare? If so how do I initiate the process?

Yes. Audi care is still purchasable if outside of warranty. Go to FD-Warranty(dot)com. He can help you get the quote, and even save you money on sales tax.

How is it not under warranty for a 2014 with less than 50k miles?

Well I'm at 5 years lol, with 34k miles. Car is fine though, no weird issues. Maps, I'm glad I have my phone for that.

And warranty is 4 year or 50k Miles. What am I overlooking?

Oh yeah, that's right. I guess you're just a few months out of warranty.

My Indy shop tried to charge me a bit more then the dealership with free loaner. Always have to get several quotes and 1 from dealer, unless you trust someone
