Let me see your lowered cars...please

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm trying to figure out what lowering springs to get. So I would like to see what our cars (B7) look like with different springs.
Please let me know the brand and amount of claimed drop.
Bonus points if it's an avant.
No Coil-over shots needed, we all know how low you can go....

In my opinion, HR springs gives the ideal ride height. I make old man noises getting out of my stock S line suspension car so this would be as low as I’d want to go and it’s low enough to look great but not so low old geezers like me can still get in and out of it. 😂

I'm not a youngster either, but I'm more concerned with the ride than how hard it is to get into. Is the ride similar to your s line? My car is also a s line.

I don’t have a true S line. The 2005 Avant just came with a lot of features. Mine has factory S line suspension. I would imagine that HR springs and Bilsteins would be slightly firmer. Now that my go fast parts are done, wheels and suspension will be my next goal. I’ll buy HR springs and Bilsteins for sure.

Vogtland coils set to 25.5 up front and 25.25 in the rear. ET35 wheels, no rubbing whatsoever. Nice ride, stiff in corners, compliant over bumps. Very pleased. Always happy to recommend these coils.

My stock was busted so I redid the suspension, but will redo again in a few years. New control arms, Eibach pro kit / sway bars with Bilstein stock sport replacement shocks. Good for now.

Are you running the Bilstein B4 sport shocks? Is that what you meant by stock Bilstein replacements?

Koni coilovers flipper rear adjusters, 034 front and rear sway bar links, RS4 RSB. I think that’s all for suspension.

Mainly price. My struts and shocks are in good shape since my car only has 50k on it.
I nice set of coilsovers are over 1k, springs are only $250.

All the Eiibach kits say 1.2 drop, but it seems like the Eibach cars are as low or lower than the H&R cars that supposedly have a 1.7 drop. I don't get it????

Hmm weird, maybe eibach measured off a sport suspension car.

Yes Bilstein B4 Sport replacements, which upon comparing #'s on Bilstein website is the same part # for the S4 replacement shocks.

Sweet. I really want to drop my car another 1/4 inch and I think the S line shocks ride real comfortable. My shocks have 180k on them so reusing my stock shocks really isn’t an option.

If these B4 shocks ride as smooth as OEM I’ll probably buy them over B8 shocks. I know the B8’s will perform and handle better but having a comfortable ride is way more important to me. The price difference is nice too but not my motivation for wanting the B4’s.

Do you highly recommend them or do you wish you went with B8’s?

I can read fine. I just don't recommend lowering on 10-12 year old struts/shocks, even if they do only have 50k miles on them. OP lives in PA, too. That's 10-12 years of cold and salt. The seals are probably about shot, and if they aren't, 6 months on a drop should pretty much finish the job. He'll need to replace those struts/shocks sooner than he thinks, so he might as well get coils now and save himself the hassle. The price will be the same in the end.

Was just trying to be funny, as like five people posted their coilover setup when OP specifically asked not to. Relax.

Couldn’t agree more about going with coilovers. That’s precisely why I asked him about it.

Coilovers are not always the best route to go. I prefer a good shock and spring combo over coilovers most of the time. A coilover with no rebound adjustments have basically no benefit for a guy like me who only wants to be lowered 2 inches or less. So buying a set of 700-1000 dollar coilovers isn’t always better than just buying drop springs and shocks for about the same price or less. And buying budget coilovers is even worse. I’ll definitely take a set of Bilsteins and HR springs over Solowerks any day. People hardly ever adjust their coilovers once they are set so why bother with them? Now if we are talking about rebound adjustability, that’s a different story.

And yes, reusing the old and tired shocks isn’t the best idea, this is true.

That was my only point. This forum is full of guys that wanted to do a $200 drop with 10 yo shocks/struts to save money, and then had to replace everything a year later. Suspension isn't where you cut corners. And yes, cheap coils are trash. For the money, I think vogtlands are a great solution, but they are no better than quality shocks and good springs, with the exception of customizing your height...but the premium for that adjustability is only about $100. If you want to do a drop, my advice to anyone is spend the money on coils or replace your shocks/struts with your springs, or be prepared to do it all over again.

    Absolutely.

I did lowering springs on the factory struts once but the car only had 10,000 miles on it. Bought it new and knew its history 😀

Well i used the B4 as Eibach claims the pro kit springs were tested with stock shocks. It rides great, solid... but the B8 would give you better control and not that much more to sacrifice in terms of ride quality. I plan to eventually go coilovers, so saving for that now. Its all about what you are expecting to do with the car. I also have the Eibach sway bar kit. Stock ride quality, and driving aggressively on good roads B4 are great. Slight more control for when roads gets rough (if it makes sense) then go B8.

Question for all you lowered guys....

    1) Should all 4 corners be the same height? Or at least 2 fronts and 2 rears? What if they are not the same height? Is something wrong?

    2) With a lowered car, should the steering wheel feel stiffer? Because mine now, before and after, feels slightly firmer....I actually like it, but is this expected?

I recently lowered my car with ST springs and struts and am having the 2 above "issues....

    1. Ideally the front should be consistent and the rear should be consistent, but it’s not uncommon for the height to be different with springs. Unlike coilovers, once the springs are installed that’s pretty much what you get. No way to easily adjust if one side is higher/lower than the other. They should be pretty damn close though.

    2. Not uncommon either. Get an alignment and reevaluate.

I'm a little late to the party...

2008 A4 S-line Titanium edition with factory sport suspension.

I chose Tein S. Tech springs since they dropped the front more than the rear (most i found had a level drop or very minimal difference, and we are all aware of the reverse rake these things have)
for shocks/struts i went with the Koni Orange Street as this is my daily and preferred a nice ride. here are pics with factory wheels and my aftermarket set....

    Rear -1.1

    aftermarket: Niche Intake

    20x10.5 255/30-20
rolled front fenders, pulled rear fenders and only rub with full tank and REALLY bad bumps.....

How do you like the ride with those springs and shocks? I'm thinking about getting those springs with koni yellows.
