    Used RS5 has tune/modified code?

    Hi there,

I am looking at a used RS5 right now, and was wondering what the implications are that an RS5 has modified code/a possible flash/tune on it. Could this ever be a negative? The dealer I took it to for inspection believes that there are 4 computer control modules that are altered. Would there be any way to see what flash/tune is on it?

Probably won't ever know what flash tune is on it unless you get in contact with the original owner. There are very very few tunes for RS5's out there. If the car is still under warranty, there are most definitely implications. If not, no issues unless it's a relatively unknown tuner and it's not a good tune. But again, very few people have actually developed tunes for the RS5 and I have yet to see one that yields more than 10hp, proven, on a dyno. I know there's that German tune that's supposedly worth 50hp but I've not seen a single person do before and after runs on a dyno or a track.

Ended up being a vag-com edit with 4 screens, this dealer (now owned by autonation...ugh) did not use the proper procedure and check for ecu/flash vs vag com edits and grouped it into one category under "computer code changes". Changes were for lighting, engine sound, etc. I asked if ECU and they ended up saying they didn't check, brought it out, and didn't seem like a flash. No APR, etc.

Wowza. Might want to avoid that dealer. They seem thorough. Could have caused you a major heartache.

Speaking of tunes, found a new one for the RS5. http://www.custom-code.co.uk

Looks like "stage 2" is custom mapping (you sending in logs) based on installation of aftermarket parts like exhaust, intake, etc...Really the only way one should do it. Canned tunes are a waste of money.

I will look into that after my Eventuri and Capristo are in! Thank you. By the way did you notice any difference after getting your links and inserts done?

I did actually, much more buttoned down although I’ve had issues with the 034 rear links. Will be updating that thread later.

Perfect I will check out the build thread, my local guys suggested the same things before even thinking of the power/sound mods. Bone Stock this suspension is great but a little floatier on the corners than I'd like. Probably also because of the awful tires put on, but here in Seattle I've got to go with Conti's rather than the summer tires with the rain we get.
