When does the factory switch model years?

I just got confirmation that my RS5 order has been finally accepted! (woo-hoo!)

Anyway, its current production complete date is June 16th, and it is listed as a model year 2018 car. I'm curios, when does the factory switch over to MY2019 production? I've seen dealerships have the next model year cars in their showrooms in summer, which obviously couldn't be the case here, although maybe not all manufacturers, or even all the plants switch at the same time?

No dealer has 2019 models in their showrooms right now or even on order since we do not have a 2019 order guide. Plus it all varies by model since they are released at different points. We will get 2019 A8s later this year but not a 2019 RS 5 until at least this time next year.

I dont know how the European auto makers differ from domestic, but there are lots of variables with at least chevy. I remember back in 2006 the new body style 2007 Tahoe reached dealers in February of 06.

I'm sure ordering is strictly based on production windows. If you wanted a 2019, might have just had to wait a lil while for open window.
