there are plenty of tried and true ways. I don't mind helping people out when they have a specific question but this one has been covered so many times. probably a couple just on the first page of the forums. do some searching

    Bang on!

A map with no other mods will make a big difference, but remember nothing comes for free... more power = more stress on parts = shorter life

The answer is money. The more money you have, the more power you can squeeze.

wish someone build a chart on how much power you get per dollar with various mods :-)

Yup, plenty of ways to get extra power on the 2.7T. Just depends on where you are at now, how far you want to go and how much $$$ you have. Not many new threads on this forum, but some insane stuff on the B5 S4 forum that often goes way over the top. One thing reading those stage 3 upgrade sagas will teach you is that it takes time, lots of money, and patience.

Where are you at now and what is your set-up? Stock or Stage 1? How much more power you looking for? Big difference between 10% and 100% more power. That 10-fold difference in % power increase can cost about you about 10X more in money unless you are competante and do all the labor yourself. Audi's ain't cheap, but when you finally get a well sorted one with reliable power they can be very satisfying

But think of this for a reference point, if you are going from a worn down stock setup to a full stage 3+ setup (~2X stock power) and running at say ~380 awhp and don't do your own wrenching, then expect it to cost around $30,000. Just expect something like that to take several months (possibly longer if waiting for parts) to complete. If you go this route, then there are several good audi tuners in our area that will happily take on a money pit project. Just make sure they offer a good warranty, so you don't have to pay any more when they have to take out your engine 4 or 5 times before they get it right! The one I used offered 3 year-36,000 mile warranty and I could only grim when they had to keep pulling the engine again and again and again and again until they finally got it right on my Allroad.

That would be some inverse exponential relationship e.g. the more you put in (Exponentially) the less additional TQ you get... First ~80hp (?) is almost free (flash) and then it goes more and more expensive. I don't even want to think how much $$$$$ it took to get my car to 650...

maybe take it a step further and some fancy bar chart, where someone could compare bang for the buck for stages 1,2,3, and separate upgrades, like intercoolers.
Actually more I think about it, horsepower's is not the only, and maybe not the primary weakness of C5 platform with 2.7. It could be improved in almost every other respect as well - braking, handling, even reliability.

    Rockin' the Rockies
'01 allroad, 250k woot woot, still boosting on original turbos and tippy, slightly modified. . .
