    DSG noise

I was looking around the forum and internet for “Whine noise DSG”. I noticed it awhile back but it doesn’t exactly match other noises mentioned throughout my search. My noise is there all the time:

    - It sounds like low gear noise heard in true manuals, someone passing by in 1st or 2nd low gear.
    - I have noticed it more lately but I installed an Street and Trans shield under it. I assume I’m hearing it more due to that.
    - When I notice it most when driving into my neighborhood at low speeds

The most common theme I see across all noise complaints is “I just changed my DSG oil”. I had a shop do the service and bought a service kit. I did use the Vaico filter vs $100 oem but I assume that’s okay. The only thing that wasn’t swapped with new was the pan itself...everything else brand new.

I’m hoping this is a Normal noise as it’s not creating any issues and I’ve gone 15k miles. It only got more pronounced after service but installed Inserts, Sways, endlinks, Alu Kreuz and street/Trans Shield while servicing so that could be why I hear it more.
** I also had them service the sports Diff. Double checked fluid and it’s correct. Not sure if you’d get a (what I’m calling) low gear whine from the Diff in Auto.

I can take it in but I feel I get better advice here than the dealership most often. Audi of GR is the quintessential “Audi Dealership”....sterol and pretentious. I hate going there as much as a doctors visit.

Outside of that, I have zero grinding or shifting issues. The car doesn’t hesitate, jerk, clunk or anything else.

I know exactly what your talking about, I get the exact same noise. 2014 DSG here, 20k miles. I first started noticing it trying to pull into my drive way slowly/quietly at night. In first or second gear at very low rpm, seems almost like a manual where you can hear the clutch and flywheel slowing down, slight mechanical whine/hum. I installed the 034 trans mount insert as well, but I don't remember if I started noticing it before or after the install. Also, mine only makes the noise after the trans has been warmed up (10 min) and I don't hear it when I slow down in drive mode, only manual and sport. Chalked it up to be normal and moved on with my life, but like you, for two month I had that sick feeling in my stomach that something was wrong. I made the car louder and hollowed out the cats, so now I can't even hear it.

Amen on the sick feeling! You are the first post I’ve seen to describe exactly my issue. Usually the post start with whine and end up with a clunking and jerking. I’m not experiencing that so it was hard to take advice from the more common threads. I guess until there is a noticeable drive issue, I’ll keep the pedal down and not worry about it. Unless someone else speaks up and tells me different. Thanks for the post it’s somewhat settling

I’m the type of guy that drives with no music and windows up to hear the car every minute I drive it. I could fall into the hyper sensitive bucket. I’m adding a Milltek non res in a week or so...maybe that’s the fix. Make other parts louder to not hear it..lol

Yeah man, you've done the maintenance, drive the car with a peace of mind, these cars are fun, just be incredibly grateful you have one and drive it like you stole it.

Done and done...I do think the elevated whine is due to 20lbs of added aluminum covering the undercarriage. I feel better knowing everything is protected with the shields but it amplifies all noises. I have to keep reminding myself there are no issues...it’s the amphitheater I built underneath lol

I am the same way after driving a B5 for years. Every little noise I hear windows go up, music off, and heartbeat races haha

I'd love to see pics of the amphitheater if you have any shots of the car on a lift.

    DSG noise

It’s the ECS Street and Trans Shield. Essentially aluminum from front bumper back to rear of Trans pan. When I install exhaust I will snap some pics

** I bought the shields for ice chunks on the highway. Our cars sit so low it’s like icebergs falling from the semi trucks. Only thing I’ve noticed is you have to line these up perfect and very tight. If not you will get clicking noise from the front (thought either CV, Control arm or Wheel Bearing originally). It’s very annoying if you don’t get them right and tight. I might make them part of my winter setup and run stock plastic in the summer. My car isn’t lowered so might as well remove the weight for summer.

I removed the shields and can barely hear the whine anymore. I wasn’t able to get pics...I’ve been busy and had a shop switch everything over for summer. It without a doubt amplified (makes sense) every normal noise the car makes. You have to remind yourself of this when you drive with them on. The clicking noise I believe is the ecode endlink, which was only installed 2 months ago. I’m another Ecode statistic I believe.
