benefits of sport mode but without pops and crackles?

I may be in the minority, but I wish there was a way to get the throttle response and transmission mapping of sport mode without all of the noise. The idea would be to drive vigorously but without calling attention to yourself. The quantity and volume of noise kind of defeats the idea of having a stealthy looking car. Any thoughts?

I hear what you're saying, but someone tested a few months ago and found that when the valves are closed the car actually loses a fair bit of power, like 10% at higher revs. Just bombing around town I guess it probably doesn't matter. Some guys have installed a separate valve controller, you may want to look into that.

Look into ASR valve control kit... you can close or open valves in any situation...

Honestly it’s why I bought the car after seeing machine gun exhaust clips on YouTube. Was disappointed the tune didn’t add it but custom code said they have and and no big deal to have it added with my tune once they ship it :-)

Hey Charlie, if you go into the individual drive mode setting you can change everything where you want, including engine sound. Earlier I was going from memory and I thought it was part of the engine/trans setting, but I just double checked and it’s a separate one.

There is a reason the flaps in the exhaust opens when WOT even in Comfort.. Theres a risk of to much backpressure if the valves are closed.

There is a difference between having the flaps open and the pops. The pops do nothing to add performance and are there to excite the aspiring racer in us by simulating the backfires on shifts...that said, they are amusing at times but I agree with the OP, when driving around town I'd rather not have them so I use comfort or individual mode... another trick is to leave it in D vs S.

When that day comes please post a video for us. I'm in the middle, I feel like one tank of gas or week (I don't know the factor) I get nice decent pops even a few very loud bangs. Then I'll go awhile with nothing at all and this while cycling to dynamic in S mode automatic... I don't get it. I'd like something more consistent.

The "pops and crackles" isnt made by the flaps, thats the engine mapping. Even though it doesnt pop og crackle in comfort it opens the flaps when WOT at around 3000rpm i any drive-Select mode.

Correct 3800rpm is when the second valve opens 100%, other valve is already at 100%, you will get more cracks and pops if valves are both held open 100% with a controller.

Mine definitely does but it is RPM specific. Downshifting around 2K RPM and up shifting around 3.3K RPM.

100% correct sorry i should have said ecu programming is going to give you the ak-47 pops, but with a controller they're alot more pronounced.
