So the car was running and had a clicking noise and sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders. Now it won't start at all. Please ignore the low voltage. I cranked it to death. It's back on a tender

with these cars with those symptoms I would just go back to basics.

see if you have spark and fuel , then check compression ...

ok knowing what I know forget the other stuff, just do a compression check ..

When you turn the key to position 2 do you hear the fuel pump prime? Do you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail (press in the shrader valve and see if fuel squirts out or dribbles)? Next as stated above I'd check for spark.

Definitely have compression. I do hear the fuel pump but to check for spark I was told never to check coil packs outside of the cylinder it's meant to be placed in

Possibly the stupid one under the ECU.

Well i recently had a similar problem. Car would randomly not start. I could hear the fuel pump turn on everytime so i knew that was fine. The car would crank and crank and I would crank it like 5 or 6 times before it would finally turn on. Did this to me at random times during a good two months ( probably seven or eight times). It was a bad relay. So I replaced all three like a month ago and ive been good since.

How do I remove the ecu box cover without breaking it. Seems like a foolish design or maybe I'm the fool

You have to remove the wiper arms then you can remove the cowl shield. Once you remove the cowl you can get to the back screw, then it's easy from there.

Ahhh. I went to the wreckers today and pulled an n80 n275 and the fuses and relays. I snapped the lid off. But now I know better.

exactly what he said. I will say though, my wiper arms were stuck on there. Probably were never removed in the life of the car (11 years). Go buy that wiper arm remover (I paid $25 at oriellys for it), it pops them right off. Also, one of my relays was stuck in there so just be patent and careful

Are both relays needing to be changed or....
I also noticed two of them were the same part number. And then there was a slim relay.

Before you get in to trouble shooting relays, do you have spark? Although you hear the pump prime do you have fuel pressure and/or do you know when the fuel filter was changed? Have you tried starting it in neutral (not sure if this is an automatic). You can hear the fuel pump and the car cranks so what relay were you suspecting would be causing a no start?

I have no documentation on fuel filter ever being changed. I purchased this car as is and it was sort of running when I purchased it. I towed it home and its been siting since and has not started since the day I purchased it.

The car is auto and doesnt start in Park or neutral.

The reason for the relay change/check was due to the fault codes being 'short to ground' and a few people have suspected a fuse or relay beneath the DME. I have never opened that compartment so might as well check it before I start replacing larger items which arent the easiest to replace

Ah right, the codes, da. I spent a looonng time sorting through a no crank issue recently on a car that ran completely fine the day before so I've been down that road. If you don't have a wiper arm puller I've found if you remove the bolt, then re-tighten it a couple of turns and tap it with a hammer while pulling straight up on the arm then they will generally come off pretty easy, a little liquid wrench for good measure.

yes the two square looking ones are identical. there are four prongs on a relay and each prong has a different number so make sure the new ones go in the exact same way. Take a pic before you pull them out
