    Gearbox Malfunction - p1704 p1705

Hey guys, new owner of a '13 s7 with 56k miles (now 61k) for a little over 3 months. everythings been pretty good except lately we've been having some hot/cold texas weather and my transmission started to act a bit weird. Anytime I'm on an incline my car would try to engage first gear and would take a bit and then jerk. Thought it might be the weather so I tried to see how it would be over a week. Yesterday as I was driving I got a gearbox malfunction, limited function available. Restarted the car and it went away and car drove off, although still had the jerks occasionally. Also, at this time it through up at CEL. :(

A few hours later, Parked car on an incline (with parking brake) and went into reverse and then got a Gearbox malfunction message, not reverse gear found. Stopped the car and reset as before and functionality came back, although it was jerking as if it was slipping. Went to a local shop to get the CEL checked out and they said it threw up P1704 and P1705. They said I might need to replace the Mechatronics unit, but it might not even fix the issue and could warrant a whole tranny replacement. Anyone have any experience anything similar and can offer any advice?

Thanks wwhan! I saw those. I talked to the local shop guys and they told me they’ve seen this. Replaced someone with a similar issue and the tranny still had issues. Idk if I should take the risk and spend 3k for the Mech unit replacement with a chance of it not fixing the issue. Love the hell out of my car but :/

With install, a transmission could be over $10k

I'd try a transmission calibration procedure before anything else. If you don't already have a VCDS or OBD11, get one just for that. Plus you can also code many other things. Unless the car was abused, it shouldn't need a new gearbox nor clutch pack this early. Good luck.

^I agree, especially given the fact that the issue is related to being on an incline.
