    3.0L V6 Timing Belt Change

    Hello,

I'm struggling to find a write up on how to do a 3.0 L timing belt belt change for my 2004 A6 Avant (I believe I'm in the correct forum - please correct me if I'm wrong). My water pump started leaking so I'm doing a pump, belt, and all of the associated pulleys, along with the valve cover gaskets. The one piece I'm struggling to understand is about the manual tensioner as it relates to the hydraulic tensioner. Unfortunately, I don't have a Bentley manual which would probably explain all of this. I have the cam and crank locking tool set coming along with a complete timing belt set. At this point, I'm down to waiting on the cam/crank tool to come in the mail before releasing the tension on the timing belt.

Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tony

I have a 2001 C5 A6 2.8. I'm not sure how similar these motors are, but there are lots of write ups and videos on the 2.8.

    I'm curious because I may get a 2004 A6 with the 3.0.

Completely different and a lot more difficult to do the 3.0 and has more expensive tools. I sold my last 3.0 before it was needed so no personal experience.

I did have this for my reference though:
