B8.5 RS4 grill with license plate

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I've searched high and low for this information, but I'm looking for an Ebay RS style grill, all black but the emblem, that I can also put a US license plate on. Any links to proven ebay grills would be great! TIA

You will have to DIY a bracket or run a tow hook mount.

I mount mine up like this:

Mine is only ever on my car when I street park downtown though as I don't like parking tickets.

Do you remember where you got that grill from? I don't mind the DIY license part. Did you have to do anything to the crash bar behind it?

I see this one, which has the smaller mesh behind the logo, like your...but has a bunch of holes in it which I'm not a fan of (I realize that two of them are for the euro plate):

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honeycomb-S...VaoOrI&vxp=mtr

Then I also see this one, which doesn't have the holes in the mesh, but also doensn't have the smaller mesh behind the logo:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-2016-A...xaaRlS&vxp=mtr

The last one also seems to have something that can cover the crash bar? I think that's what it's for if I'm not mistaken?

I got mine long ago, I was looking for a specific style and it took a while to find.

I don't think the seller has them anymore.

I used black bed liner on the crash bar. It holds up way better than paint or plastidip.

    @whiped

Do you drive with it on or just slap it on when parked? I’d be interested to hear if it’s secure enough to drive around with.

Pardon my ignorance/density on this one, but what exactly is that hardware you're using and how exactly is that mountable/unmountable to the grill?

I just installed my RS4 mesh grille. A little upset that the Audi emblem holder and license plate brackets weren’t included, will submit a claim with Amazon.

Have you considered the tow hook license plate holder? That’s the route I am going.

Yeah, I just really dislike that look. I'd sooner zip tie the plate to the front of the grille than run it offset and sticking out that far from the two hook area.

Honestly, as long as you don't mount the plate all the way down on the plain RS grille, it still looks fine, just leave some honeycomb showing under the plate. Unfortunately, the "Quattro" logo grilles are SOL, it's either nothing or tow hook.

It seems @whiped has figured out a different solution, it appears. That's why I was curious on what hardware exactly he was using to achieve his setup and how it was done.

Yes, his temporary toggle bolt set-up is nice and neat. I started down that road, but since I was putting the hex mesh right behind my grille, the big toggle bolts didn't work.

    Interesting. Two questions...

    1) Where did you get that hex mesh?
    2) What did you use to build that plate setup?

The aluminum hex mesh is from McNichols, they give you enough to do two screens ( 36 by 24" ) so I bought the extra from another AZer, but you can get it here. https://www.mcnichols.com/perforated...um-al-17642732

The plate holder was just a cheap plastic one from O'Reilly's ( $ 6 ) , and got all the hardware at Ace. I used the existing solid plastic hex that were in the grille that the Euro Plate would attach to, then bolted it behind the grille, and then through the screen, and used lock nuts to secure the screen itself.

@sacandagaD I love what you did with putting the hex mesh behind the grill. Any input on how you secured that mesh to the back of the RS grill?

Thanks! I actually trimmed the mesh so it was just slightly larger than the sides of the grille and pressed it in, and the two license plate bolts secure it from moving. It's been on for 2 1/2 years now, and it's still securely in place. One of these days, I actually need to take it back off, and respray the crash bumper since it has started to flake off.

Thanks for the info! Going to try and order the mesh from the same place you got it from. Is the mesh silver or black in color? Still waiting for my grill but would like to get all the parts ordered. I've read that using trunk liner for the crash bar is a little better than just regular paint, so I might give that a go.

Silver, so I painted the mesh with flat black spray paint, and the crash bar with bed liner.
