I currently have REVO and would change to APR, do I need to re-flash to stock 1st ? or I can just over write the current tune?

Need to bring in my car for oil consumption, my dealer recommends to flash it to APR as REVO when we flash back to stock will be detected, based on their experience Audi is friendlier with APR tune than others.

That's not going to matter. Save your money. They can detect the tune whether it's been flashed back or not. Audi of America has taken a hardline stance on not fixing anything that they absolutely do not have to. They implemented this policy as a money saving measure. It sucks, but they are going to deny your warranty claim based on the tune. A warranty is a contract, so you could sue them for breach. I don't know how that would go, or if it makes sense economically. I'm not an attorney. The dealership may cut you a deal, but your chances of getting this fixed for $0 is 0%. Maybe you could pick up a second ecu and have it flashed with the right vin number. I have no idea if that would work, or if it would make sense. TL:DR, Changing the tune, even having it removed, is not going to matter under the circumstances.

When I took my car in for service, I always flashed it back to stock (Audi's Software), NOT the "stock" map from a tuner. I had good luck with this, never being flagged TD1. I even had them run software updates for a few modules (steering rack was the main one, the update seemed to reduce the deadzone in the middle of the steering wheel) and even then the system didn't flag me TD1

The time I did get flagged TD1, I took my car in with the tune loaded. All they were doing was recalibrating my steering wheel sensor. Mom and pop shop who claimed to have the newest alignment equipment for the newest vehicles threw my steering sensor out of whack and could not recalibrate it. I tried a few times with VDCS with no luck. I was forced to go to the dealer, who fixed it in 20minutes....

If the dealer has to replace something costly under warranty, under direction from AoA, they will do a “deep dive” and find out if you have ever been tuned to avoid an expensive repair. You will get flagged TD1
