We're certainly the minority when it comes to A6 and A7 owners. I wanted to start this so we can bounce ideas and questions off each other. Share what you got and what you've done. I'll start.

16 A7 EPL stage 1.
Injen intake
RS style grill
20" Bbs chr wheels

Thinking about going APR stage 2. Saw some great results from a forum member with the crec motor.

my wife has a A6(C7) 3.0 TFSI. We have APR tune and huge Big Brembo Kit. We thought about going Stage 2 on the 55k service but we are putting that on hold. It would be $800 to upgrade but we are not convinced. I am yet to see a back to back video of a apr Stage I vs Stage 2 on a drag strip or accelerating/racing from a roll. I asked on the forum but no luck. I would be happy if I just see some time slips from someone that went from Stage I to Stage 2.

What is a CREC motor? and what member have you seen that had good results? Thanks!

Right now stage 1 EPL tune and RS7 intake. Big overhaul coming soon with brakes, stage 2 and probably AMS boost cooler within a month (hopefully), RS7 grill just shipped and hopefully get installed next weekend and I'm running the corner markers today.

+1 to that...I have EPL Stage 2. I flashed with Stage 1 before I installed the SC pulley. Once I flashed with the Stage 2 download you'll be mad you waited so long. It will be well worth the $800.00.

Yup you're right. The CREC motor was introduced in model year 2016, replacing the old 3.0T called the CTUB. Came with a different designed supercharger and different hp/tq #'s.

Only problem with the CREC engine is the supercharger clutch slips at higher hp levels, or so I hear.

It would be nice to see some EPL results for the CREC engine. Also need to find out how much E85 we can get away with on this engine.
I haven't been able to find out if the HPFP is the same on the CREC engine as the pre 16' model year because of the second set of injectors.

Sub 12 on software only is pretty impressive for a larger lux-sport machine like ours. With just over 2K miles on my 18, I'm already itching to tune it (just because). Keep this thread alive!

Warranty and TD1 are the biggest reasons why I am sure.

Although I wouldn't disagree with you that the fear of TD1 discourages many, that doesn't account for all of the other MY 14 and 15 folks out there that are still under warranty flashing. The biggest reason is that the tuners out there didn't release a tune for us until about a year ago and continue to throw most of their time and efforts (I don't blame them) to the older, tried and true, models and especially the 4.0 crowd.

I don't know too many people that have upgraded pulleys with the CREC motor. Changing the pulleys out is easy enough that I would do it and undo it when I have to bring it in for service (the 4 bolt drive pulley that is).

It's always fun seeing other A6 owners with the sleeper/stealth look... running tunes and mods... and blowing away the majority of daily drivers...

Mods listed in my signature but I do plan to complete my APR Stage 2 setup by end of month, spefically: APR Crank Pulley APR InterCooler. As for exhaust note, scheduling the delete of the center muffler and adding bigger magnaflow exhaust tips to fill out the rear cutout...

I'm on the fence whether to de-badge my trunk so time will tell...

Agreed... still getting 21+mpg during normal driving... even in GA traffic. Now if Sunday cruising... lucky if I can maintain 17mpg... but still isn't too bad... if I say it enough it will be true.... ;-)

I'd definitely consider debadging the trunk. I did it on my black A6 and replaced the silver Audi emblem with a gloss black one and I couldn't be happier.

Looks gr8. I had badges removed from my Nardo Gray, but left chrome rings on.. been on the fence about swapping them for gloss black like the remaining trim/mirrors.

If they scan your car they would know you had ECU flashed even after going back to stock tune. Stage 2 SC pulley looks almost the same size as original. Almost impossible to tell difference when installed.
Since you already risk your warranty with Stage 1, why not go to Stage 2 for more complete experience?

When my car is flashed back to stock with EPL, there is no detection to my knowledge and haven’t heard any member on this forum have issues of getting flagged for TD1 with any EPL TUNE flashed back to stock.

If I had a SC or crank pulley and went from stage 2 Tune back to stock Tune the crec SC has a sensor wihich detects it’s increased RPMs which in turn causes the check engine light to be on. I don’t want to be in that scenario.

Thus stage 1 is convenient for me while I have warranty.

I admit I forgot about that additional RPM sensor for SC on C7.5. Your point about it is valid. However be aware that like I said Audi can discover your ECU was flashed. From what I read there seems to be a counter of how many times ECU was reprogrammed. So even if you flash it back to stock with EPL the total counter of rewrites would be up from what Audi servers hold. This might not come up in regular maintenance visit but if you would develop powertrain issues, they might detect it and deny your warranty.

Hey do mind quickly summarizing the difference between EPL stage 1 and APR STAGE 1 and any other stage 1? Is it just the manufacture or are there true difference. Do all speed shops offer both??? Thanks

They all have a stage 1. It's an entry level tune if you will that doesn't require any additional hardware. Epl is known to give you the ability to flash from home while some other the others may require you to get it flashed in a shop. Should net you similar results.

We are talking stage 1 vs Stage 2 strictly, no BS of adding race gas, filters, intercoolers and stuff like that. I hear some people saying that Stage 2 is noticeable but realistically for me it has to be a tangible proof(drag strip, dynes, video of a race from a roll) just like I asked a few weeks/months ago on the forums. I spent $1300 on a APR tune, I am not switching to other companies just to see, I am only interested on a basic stage I to Stage 2 comparo(same gas) but no other add ons. APR website shows marginal gains in power.

I am not denying your claims, I am just saying that I haven't seen any tangible differences.

I can't really gave you much empirical data as I went from stock straight to Stage 2.
From what I gathered before deciding and why I eventually decided to go for stage 2 is this:
-stage 1 gives you significant increase in power and torque but most of it available at higher RPMs
-stage 2 gives you only incremental increase in power and torque but makes it available to you much sooner at much lower RPMs than Stage 1

Therefore Stage 2 is more of a complete tune and changes the dynamic of available power/torque significantly.
Some comments I read had users disappointed after flashing to Stage 1 and were soon back to get Stage 2.

Lots more CREC engines outside the US - it was introduced in the S4 and S5 in mid-2014. I have been running an MRC stage 2 (475chp) with 189mm Vdamper crank pulley for over a year now.
The risk is indeed the supercharger clutch. There is a revised part 06E145105S, however even this one has still been known to slip at higher levels of tune (e.g. APR's ultracharger).

Most people that are doing stage 1 vs stage 2 comparisons are using identical hardware. Stage 2+ is when the 3.0t is usually getting supporting mods like a larger HX. Not sure why you mentioned an intercooler as there is no upgrade for this or trivial things like a air filter (maybe an single HP if lucky) or why someone would run race gas for a comparison.

Where did anyone mention you switching to another company for a tune?

I think you need a better understanding of what power under the curve is...It's not a simple delta of HP and TQ on stage 1 VS HP and TQ of stage 2.

If you want to run low 13's to high 12's stick with stage 1. If you want mid 12's stage 2. Low 12's to high 11's stage 2+.
