Front passenger side footwell- and door lights not working

When I open the door, they don't light up. What could be the problem? Is it the microswitch in the door latch that's faulty? Also, when I open the door it doesn't show that the door is open in the display

Probably the door microswitch. Vag-com cam confirm if you're seeing a signal from that door, but I'd lay money on the microswitch.

Ok. Does it help to clean and spray the microswitch or do I need a new door latch? And where on the door latch is the microswitch located? If that's the problem

In VCDS it says "door closed" when open

Wd40 and working the latch can fix the door bounce issue (where closing the door it bounces open to the outer of the two latch positions).

I have the same microswitch issue, unfortunately I was told that the door card needs removing and the whole lock unit out to get at the switch

Ok. Do I have to remove the window frame to remove the latch or can it be done without doing that?

Per the tech writeup I linked above (post #4) it's supposed to be possible, but in my own experience, it's much easier to remove the window frame first ...

Do you know if a door latch from a A6 1998 fits a 2004? It says it should but I wanna be sure.

if the part numbers match, you're good
also, link for 2 videos showing dis-assembly and reassembly of the door panel for latch replacement

    Thanks for the link

For example, this door latch has both the part # for my 2004(401837016) and an A6 1998(4B1837016G). In the list it says it fits both. According to ETKA, 4B1837016G is before the facelift and 401837016 is after.

Of course the microswitch didn't work on the door latch I bought from the scrap yard. So I had to do some altering. I cut the 2 pins on the switch so I could move the switch/button closer to the cam, then I put some glue on so it would stick. And now it works. It was the same fault on both door latches. The buttons were worn down from the cam

My jetta had a similar problem so I bought the cheapest eBay latch I could find just for the microswitch

They don't ship to Sweden. Also, we have to pay a $10 fee if we order from China in Sweden. So stupid. Can I get them from somewhere else?

Only ships in the US. Guess I'll just have to pay the extra fee. Not the end of the world
