Michelin Pilot Sport 4s - Curb Protection?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Those with RS3's and the 255/235 combo, could you just take some relatively close up images showing the curb protection they have?

My Pirelli curb protectors have saved my ass a couple times, but they are really crappy tyres. Would love be able to consider the MPS4's if they can provide a little curb protection too.

Also what size and specs are you guys running on those tyres for switching out the Pirellis?

Well thats confusing. I know they would have less than the Pirelli's.

But their website suggests and even shows they clearly do have rim protection.

Hence, I would like to see some pics from users who actually have these on their car. I think I could definitely live with half or if poss of what the Pirelli's have.

Even better if somebody could just measure the depth of the lip on the stock blade rims that would be great.

    Thanks!

I see you are running 35's up front, that looks like some paper thin clearance! Did you have to modify anything? Surely that rubs?

I always did wonder too if there are downsides to having 30 up front and 35 at rear, in fact, I wonder if its why my traction light sometimes will come on when I am literally doing 55km/hr on a straight flat road in 3rd.

So far zero rub. Even at fully turned theres about a centimeter of space. Vertically there's inches. I've been running it for two weeks now and not a single scuff. No mods.

    @Pneub:

    That setup looks sharp!

What wheel size (width and offset) are you running and did you need to use spacers?

Wow that looks like almost if not a whole inch wider than the pirellis?

Wouldn't that then give you an inch on either side 'curb protection' since the stock wheels are 8.5wide? That looks like around a 10.5inch tyre?

Yeah, it's been mentioned before. Someone posted actual contact patch of MPS4S vs OEM Pirellis - even though both are 255, the MPS4S has a much wider contact patch. The Pirelli has weird slopped shoulders so you actually get less contact patch.

I just measured my 235/35/19 Pilot Sport 4S tires which are mounted on the stock 8 inch wheels. The curb protector sticks out roughly just over 3/16" .
