Just wanted to share. I know I’m not alone here. I’m suddenly seeing a bunch of you in the same boat.
I thought I’d share my symptoms here. Last month I was driving the kids to school early morning and had the S7 lose power and stall while merging onto a busy road. The car eventually started after a few attempts and I thought nothing of it.
Fast forward 3 weeks and my wife in her Q5 parked next to me is telling me my car sounds terrible and points out a clicking noise at idle.
The next day my car stalls out after a rough idle. My idle was fluctuating between 500 rpm and 1100. The stall and rough idle continued the next day and eventually the S7 died on the way to drop off at my shop.
Had it towed and diagnosis came back blown turbos. My tech told me the front of the shaft seemed functional with some minor scoring on the inner wall of the housing. Eventually he was able to access the back of the shafts and the driver side rear was cracked.
Anyway, I was able to locate a used set of turbos from a member here which saved me a good amount. The part quote for the kit including the turbos, gaskets etc. was $5000. The turbos were $4100 of that. Ouch..
The car is getting fixed and will hopefully be ready early next week. Now what?
I’m debating if I’m keeping her longer or move on. Lately my driving consists of 25 miles a day of mixed highway and some back road twisters but the car mostly sits in a lot. I’m thinking, time to move on but I know I’ll miss the power, comfort and sportiness of the S7.
Anyway.. I vented. I hope I don’t see any more posts of blown turbos.
