Do you know who IROZ is using to create the tune? Is it UM or Eurocharged? From my understanding they do not do the actual tuning they work with another outfit to make the tune. They have worked with UM on some other platforms and have been quite successful.

The intercooler upgrade he is talking about is the addition of a larger radiator for the stock intercooler. Which is quite capable.

It's not the HE portion that he's upgrading, its the "charge-cooler" section that the throttle body attaches to- and it should be coming soon.

That’s why I said “inter-cooler” and not heat exchanger.. It was exactly what I was asking about.

An intercooler, or "Charge-Air Cooler", is an air-to-air or air-to-liquid heat exchange device used on turbocharged and supercharged (forced induction) internal combustion engines to improve their volumetric efficiency by increasing intake air-charge density through isochoric cooler.

Tyrol Sport is supposed to be making one as well. A few different options would be nice.
MRC also finished up that Air to air unit, couldn’t find much into at all on it unfortunately.

Why won’t any one spill the beans on this intercooler? Everyone’s talking about it. Is it a bigger core? Is it a Bigger end tank? Is it two cores squished together like an Oreo ice cream sandwich ?

    I’m not asking much here.

I've been told the SRM cooler will be testing this week, fitment, logging, etc... available to ship as of next week. From what I know the core is very specialized and is coming from the UK so availability may be weeks not days. I don't have any other details to offer from a cost standpoint but it likely will not be cheap, its a very specialized manufacture process w/limited producion, that said I may have some before and after IAT info from a buddy of mine in the coming weeks - I'll relay what I know when I know it.

    Greetings,

I got some bad news this week. A blown turbo on my 2015 S8 and it is out of warranty by 1000 miles. I am considering at upgrading to TTE 800s and cast downpipes at the same time instead of going with stock replacements. I currently have an APR stage 1 tune on the car. Some questions I have for you experienced turbo engine builders. Does anyone have experience with The Turbo Engineers? If so TTE800 vs TTE9XX? From what I understand the TTE9XX requires enhanced cooling for them to work properly. Lastly, any pointers from those of you who have upgraded your 4.0. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Why TTE? Given the insane price for them and meh results, I'd at least look into another hybrid setup like the gtx internals.

With more options hitting the scene for bigger turbos and tuning as well, thought I would bring this back up to gather more info. I am personally considering some bigger turbos so wondering what ppl are seeing between the GTX28 and GTX30 options as well as ECU and TCU tuning to go along with them. With APR, Eurocharged, HP Tuners, UM and others doing some tuning, it will be interesting to see results. Also seeing more cooling options to help take advantage of the power potential. I have this feeling that there are a number of ppl doing some things off the grid and we are going to see some cool stuff very soon?

My experience is that the software has not caught up with the hardware. My car is up to speed with bleeding edge hardware from hybrid turbos, waste gates, actuators, cooling and on and on, but it’s slower than it was when stock because there’s no tune to make it all work. Soon, I’m told.

Thanks for sharing that. The software is what is holding me back at this point. Looking at adding cooling and infrastructure that will add benefits to stock setup as well as larger turbos when tuning is more readily available and proven. I don’t have a custom tuning shop nearby with an AWD dyno so I need a package deal like a Stage III kit from APR or something. Hoping that the work Sean is doing with APR ends up going that route.

A lot of custom tunes can be done remotely and just require you to run logs and email them back and forth then download the updated files, no dynos necessary. Not sure which tuner could offer that specifically for our cars at this point, but the tech is there.

My experience is that the software has not caught up with the hardware. My car is up to speed with bleeding edge hardware from hybrid turbos, waste gates, actuators, cooling and on and on, but it’s slower than it was when stock because there’s no tune to make it all work. Soon, I’m told.
This is absolutely true, and it is true for all platforms (including electronics). Hardware is always developed first with software coming in later. I will say though, that depending on the hardware you choose, you’re not guaranteed to be “quicker” than stock because stock is already very quick (from 0-60). What we need to be able to do is find a way to keep our 0-60 (and 60’) close to what we have stock but improve our top end. My favorite part about this car is how we get so much torque at such low RPM and you can actually use it (being AWD). I’m curious to know what that big turbo RS6 runs in the 1/4 mile.

We know Eurocharged has figured something out to hit 10.00 at 140mph with the bigger turbos and other goodies.

Yes. I’m linked up with APR and they haven’t yet tackled the project.
