Adding check valve to 1.8T fuel system

    Hi guys

My OG fuel pump went out in my car last year. Replaced it with a used one from a parts car I had, and low and behold the check valve in that pump doesn't work. Car takes multiple tries to start after letting it sit for a while.

Instead of replacing the pump AGAIN with an aftermarket one, I figure I'll just put in a check valve.

I was just wondering where you guys who have done this put the check valve. I've seen some people say they put it on the feed line that comes from the fuel pump up to the top cap on the tank (the plastic hose), but I don't know how well it would seal since it's corrugated the whole way.

Another option would be right at the outlet of the cap on the tank, but the problem is that the hard lines that go to the engine are pretty tight in there and adding a whole check valve will make the hard lines hit the body of the car.

So where have you guys put yours?

    Thanks!

You can just turn the key on for a few seconds or even do that a few times before starting the car since at will allow the pump to pressurize the fuel line and rail again.

This is what I have been doing for the last 13 years. lol

Hahahaha thanks Mike. If I remember correctly though, my car will only prime once with the key and won't do it again if I keep turning the key on and off... Is there something else wrong here? The car is still in winter storage so I can't say for sure, but I remember trying that with no dice...I guess I should check the fuel pressure with a gauge... Just wish they would make it easier than having to cut the damn hose.

I thought I was going to need one of these after installing an aftermarket pump (in a Walmart parking lot, in the middle of winter, with a full tank of gas) because the check valve was crap and didn't work. But after a month or two of dealing with it, it just started holding pressure all on its own. I guess the check valve seat wore in a little bit and fixed itself. This won't be a solution for everybody, but for me - patience (and laziness) paid off.

Haha glad it worked out. This pump from the parts car I put in has been sitting a while since the car is scrap, so who knows...
