    Audi oil level

Has anyone seen this or have input?
My 2010 A5 2.0T was low on oil per the interface. I added oil to top it off. Then about 200 miles later I was a quart low, so I added a quart. Later in the day I was quart low. I didn't add oil and later it moved to a half quart low, then almost full.
This to me means that the oil level sensor is bad, so I purchased a new Hella oil level sensor and had it installed along with an oil change. Now my oil level on the interface is empty, even at running temp. It is not telling me to add a quart. Do I need to drive it a certain distance for it to start registering oil? Or, is the new part faulty?

Yes, I know, get a dipstick. Well, I have one now, but I don't want the car telling me to add oil when none is needed.

It does take some time for the MMI to read it, but mine's always been steady. I'd monitor with the dipstick and compare, if the MMI is jumping around but it's steady on the dipstick that will confirm the sensor is doing something funny.

it always made me SMH about not coming with a dipstick. What car doesnt come with a dip stick?

but ya it takes my sensor a while to update in the MMI. if i am low i just double check the stick and add as needed.

At least Audi still comes with holes for a dip stick. Newer BMWs don't even have that.

Hell, my 2003 MB C230 Kompressor didn't have a dipstick or any way to add one.

These cars in some ways rely too much on computers and technology. So much so that when the battery in my S5 died this winter (the car was just sitting...should have started it more often...I'm a dummy) not only would the fob not work, but neither would the valet key. I had to use a coat hangar to open the door, then had to crawl through the back seat into the trunk to open it (the trunk latch on the driver's door doesn't work without power either) so that I could change the battery...I love my car, but this is the only car I have ever owned where this was even possible.

Uh, so you're telling me your key fob doesn't have a little button on the back so you can pull it in half and expose the physical key? You're supposed to use that to open the truck/doors.

Not sure if you realize this or not, but the graph represents one full quart of oil. So if you see the graph indicating 75% full, then you're just 1/4 of a quart down from a full crankcase. Only when you reach a full quart low oil will the graph first appear empty. And then at that point, you'll never know if you are just a quart low or even more than a quart low because that graph only represents one quart of oil of the five quarts in your crankcase.
