Been kicking some ideas around about a car I am acquiring and I can't find an answer searching so here are the questions.. Don't ask why about my Crazyness yet lol..

How much weight can you shed from an allroad and still keep it street able?? I'm talking leaving windows, lights things to keep it street able , doesn't need any comforts otherwise, some light weight race seats, removing rear window motors etc.. .. Gutting behind bumpers etc.. Really lightening it up!! Anyone done it??

And what's the easiest way to Go about making it handle like it's on rails, I know alot of guys swap coils on it but Id assume it wouldn't be much different than an a6 then... I want tight break your neck cornering...

    Thanks guys

if you want something that handles like that, easiest would be to go get a Porsche
    Rockin' the Rockies
'01 allroad, 250k woot woot, still boosting on original turbos and tippy, slightly modified. . .

    Wrong car.

Otherwise, generally the rules for improving handling are pretty much the same as any car. Weight yes, but suspension/wheels/tires etc. I disagree that installing coilovers will just make it handle like an A6.

These aren't light cars but not necessarily because the stuff in it is heavy the car itself is just well/overbuilt. Compared to a Civic sure this carpet probably weighs 40lbs vs 5-10lbs so there are hevay parts inside but there is mass you won't safely remove from the body itself if the plan is to drive it on the street.

Seats are beastly front and back (uppers) but getting interior after putting light seats back I toured talking maybe 200lbs. Now you're going to have a car that is still heavy and no comfort.

I don't hate your idea.. just as said by others not the best car to start with.

Or go totally nuts and build and exo allroad :). Like build the cage to retain a wagon shape/4 seats !!!

I don't need guys saying do it with another car. Don't really care about comfort.. Only comfort I'll be keeping Is the heater so I'm not completely freezing ice racing it.. Just don't really have any money in the car itself and I have my daily allroad for comfort m.. So again has anyone stripped one and what did it end up weighing in at after removing most things of comfort... Think it's possible to get it down to a decent weight without completely evo?

I know you don't want people saying that but it seems like you do need it at least a little.

The weight of this car is not in the stuff bolted to it you can remove and suffer through some noise.. it's in the car itself and the drivetrain.

Removing all the comfort stuff is maybe 200lbs. Rear motors, spare, bumper bars like you mentioned maybe 350-400lbs total now with the rest of the interior gut. That's a little under 10% that's not insignificant for a reduction but you still end up with a 3800 lbs vehicle..

Remove the same from a 3000lbs vehicle and you end up closer to 2600. That's the difference here and why people are saying this may not be the best car for this. That doesn't meant don't do it.. just manage expectations accordingly.

That's just the weight same applies to the break your neck handling. You can make it handle better, but necks will remain intact.
