    Hole on CVT

I noticed this hole on the driver's side of the CVT in my 2006 A4 B7.
Is it supposed to be open like that, or am I missing a plug?

In case I need a plug, does anyone have a part number?

    Thanks so much!

I don't think there is a plug for that area. Doesn't look like anything internal.

Looking a pictures of 01j CVT and they all appear to have the same opening with nothing actually there. Looks to be a defacto speed sensor mounting location that's no longer used since the TCM monitors that now?. I didn't see any audi specific part number relating to such a part. It's possible when the casting was designed that LuK (the company Audi worked with to design the CVT) had originally intended it to be a planned location of a speed sensor , that was later changed up by the time the car went into production? In either case, it appears that compartment the opening leads into is sealed off from the rest of the transmission where the CVT fluid resides.

Here are a picture of a nissan CVT speed sensor, the mounting point is very similar.

And here's a youtube video of a CVT transmission coming out of an B6 A4, if you look at the 4:23 mark, same opening. Nothing there.

Don't drop a bolt in that hole. That's no fun.

When I replaced my coolant flange I dropped a bolt and never found it. Fortunately I had a spare but I was worried that it fell into a transmission hole. I still have no idea where the bolt went.
