I've seen s4 owners selling their whole assembly for a few hundo on the classifieds. I'd try and save a little more and go that route if you just want a little drop. Ive seen some used solowerks on the classifieds here for $300-400 too, but they're fewer and farther between.
If you have space, a weekend, tools, and a little experience, swapping your suspension is definitely doable.
This touches on something so overlooked on this topic. Suspensions are designed as primarily two pieces that are spec'd out to work in harmony. When you replace springs only with lowering springs, you must realize your shock absorbers were not designed to work with those springs so you are compromising the integrity of your suspension system (rougher ride, increased wear).
Be smart, save up and get coilovers.
Also, does the s4 setup really drop an a4?
