    Flywheel condition?

    Is there a way to check the flywheel for wear. I'd hate to reinstall the transmission & parts inside and find out the flywheel is bad in six months.

    The flywheel isn’t inside the transmission. It’s bolted to the rear of the crank. The only way you’re checking its condition is to remove the transmission then remove your pressure plate and clutch from the motor.

    I understand that it's adjacent to the MT. Anyway to check for definitive wear. My tech is stating it's impossible to check?

    If it isn't obviously damaged, there is no way to know how much life it has. I would replace it while you have the chance with a solid flywheel and ditch the dual mass stocker.

    ECS RA4 or JHM Stage 1 clutches is what I'd do. And what I will be doing when the time comes.

    And at 92k miles, 40k of which is been mainly city, the clutch is not much longer for this world...

    Surgery was a success. Since I had a LWFW from JHM installed I needed JHM stage 1 clutch kit. I had it installed with salvage transmission with a 112K miles.

    Andrew from Denver (I found on Craigslist and he is also a poster in here) cracked it open to make sure the gears and synchros were great he said it looked brand new and I agree with that statement. It's flawless now the flywheel is a little bit noisy, but what the hell. It's shifts like it should now.

    That’s why I went with the slightly heavier and steel flywheel in the ECS kit over JHM’s stage 1 kit. The clutch REALLY has to be bogged down for it to even make a peep or sometimes I’ll hear it when I start the car but it’s super rare.

    You made a good choice with the JHM kit, I’m not saying the ECS kit is better really, just a little quieter going from what people say about the aluminum flywheel. Your car will rev faster with the aluminum flywheel though. 😀

    I never had any weird noises with the JHM stage 3. I get a tiny bit of clatter with the clutch in now with the 850 super single, but that's just the loose parts of the pressure plate rattling. No big deal to me, it's only audible if I'm right next to a building with the window down like a drive-thru window at a fast food joint.
