What’s this that fell off my B7?...

Was driving home from work today, and hear a pop from under the center of the car. I thought my car’s tires kicked up a rock or something, but when I got home, I saw this hanging down from a pipe in the center of my car. Pulled it off and it looks like a heat shield or something. What is this, and does this mean my exhaust will have a hole in it soon?...no extra noise from car yet.

That’s the flex pipe off of your exhaust. Pretty integral for the exhaust to not hang off the downpipe. You probably want to get that repaired immediately.

Crap. Ok, thanks. Can any basic muffler shop take care of it?

Shouldn’t be an issue. The probably have to remove your downpipe and front section of your exhaust to do it, but shouldn’t have an issue.

Not sure how rusted your exhaust system is, they could weld a new flex pipe on no problem if there is some exhaust left

Image shows up fine for me. Google exhaust flex pipe, and you can see the metal fiber weave. This is what fell off.
