Can anyone identify this device? This sits at the edge of the headliner near the top of the windshield just left of the rearview mirror. The attached picture shows the device from the perspective of the driver's seat. This is a 2013 Audi A4 Premium.

Does it ever light up or do anything?

Not as far as I've noticed since I purchased the car last week. It does have a single black wire coming from it and disappearing under the headliner.

Interesting. It actually looks almost identical to an aftermarket park distance control display I've seen in a coworkers car, but upholstered to match your interior. Check out the park sensors in your rear bumper, if they're not OEM sensors, I'd lay good money that it's an aftermarket parking radar.

That said, no idea why someone installed one, as I'm assuming your car came with PDC from the factory.

You're awesome I think it is part of the parking radar which is aftermarket but I couldn't be sure that it was part of that system because it doesn't seem to do anything. I just found the small control board for the parking radar in the driver side trunk compartment (Ackton Precision Park P4000) and now looking up the owner's manual I see that this is the optional display for that system.

My next mystery is whether or not the backup camera is aftermarket and if so then is that where the small button on the end of a wire (which I found in the glove box) came from. When I press the button the MMI display cycles through 4 other input s (Navi, AV1, AV2, & AV3) however none of them show anything but black. I'm starting to think the previous owner tried to return the car to as close as possible to stock before trading it in.

I'm having a blast hunting down all these mysteries though.

Glad you're having a good time of it, those sorts of things always frustrate me to no end! I can't help you much with the MMI, I've got no experience whatsoever with them. Good luck!

Thanks. Yeah the main drawback is I haven't been getting much sleep, up all night on Audi Forums learning about MMI and VAG-COM and taking multiple trips out to the car in the middle of the night to try getting into the green screen or search the glove box.
