Hey guys, so a few days ago I woke up to a rather large oil puddle under my 04 allroad. Did some investigating today and after looking at the oil feed lines and the turbos I determined those were not the issue, they seemed to be fine. But around the back of the motor was where I think most of the oil is coming from. My first and only guess is the rear main seal. I know the pics aren’t much help but what do u guys think??
    Thanks,
    Reece

Pics 2 and 3 show what could be a torn inner CV boot ... look at the inside of the heat shield above the boot ...

Yea I know that boot is bad (and the axle) but the oil wouldn’t be coming from in there right?

There is/was lightweight grease in the CV joint, which is now spread all over ... if there is actual motor oil in the mix, I would expect dripping from the valve cover gaskets (can't remember how many 2.7T sets I've had to replace in the last 14 years) or the cam plugs in the back of the heads. Use degreaser to clean what's already there and get a light/mirror ...

There is motor oil in the mix, A LOT OF IT and I think I can feel oil from the rear of the valve cover so that might be it

Made a BIG TIME rookie mistake and probably look like an idiot. It was the steering rack. The fluid looked like oil and smelled like it, turns out it was ps fluid🤦🏼*♂️ I feel so dumb
