Would you sell your RS4 for an air cooled 911?

Got the hots for an old 964 911. My RS4 has 50k miles and I love the car a lot...but I can’t keep them all. I also have a GT350R and I’m not sure if maybe that’s the one I should sell....thoughts?

What's the info on the RS4, I'm looking for one.

I'd buy your GT350R if I could fit in the seats

I'm not a mustang fan but I got to drive a friend's father in laws GT350R.... That car is amazing! You have a very hard choice!

Personally I'd keep the rs4 and sell the GT, worse case is you grab another GT later on and sell the RS. Super clean RS4's are becoming hard to find, although a few pop up now and then, I feel like if you wanted to change your mind it be easier to find a clean 350R at a later date.

Let us know what you choose!

I think it would be a question of what role does the RS4 serve for you? Does it serve as the daily driver? If so, perhaps replacing it with a 964 would not be super ideal for same functionality. However, if it's just another toy in garage; why not?! The GT350R already ticks the box for the car that makes the burbly V8 noises and thrusts smiles onto face; go get a nice 964! They are special cars indeed.

That being said, for me personally I just could not justify the dollars that a clean 964 commands on the market these days; silly prices for basic C2/C4 examples that were $15-25K cars all day long 5-8 years ago. Want something nicer in a turbo or RS model? Prepare to bend over and bite down on the leather.....

As an alternate option, maybe change up the GT350R and order up a new Camaro ZL1 1LE! Those things are no joke on the track. You could run with new GT3RS's for 1/4 the price.

Agreed, I've been looking for an 87-89 3.2 G50 car for about a year and I can't pull the trigger. Every car is $20k over what I think it is worth!

OP, a "reasonable" 964 just popped up on Rennlist: https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...-for-sale.html

There's also an M491 on Rennlist for sale and it's super clean. I know it's all personal preference but I'd take that over a 964. If you're gonna go 964, may as well do the 993. If not, then the earlier cars have a nicer shape.

I know your username is Stanglife but dump the ford, get the Porsche and then when you can, pick u that new Camaro. I drove that back to back with a Mustang GT and a Hemi Challenger at AAA raceway in fontana and nothing can hold a candle to that Camaro and it was just an SS.

Aren't there limited numbers for the GT350R? If it is, you have 2 very rare cars, and a tough choice.
    Previous cars:

    2006 Audi S4
    2008 Subaru Spec B

GT350R will likely hold value better than RS4 but who knows. Personally if you could keep all 3 just do that. I have a problem giving up good collector cars. I would not know what to do in your shoes. I am eyeing GT350s as well because I want a track capable toy.

The question was vs 964. Not a chance in hell that I'd buy a Chevy...and if you're comparing a charger to a GT350R, not really the same ballpark.

I get it, you're a Ford fan. I am too. Hated the Camaro and loved the Mustangs. However now I think both cars are equal and it would be hard for me to not look into a Camaro if I was cross shopping. Lucky for you, you don't have to as you already have the Stang.

Quick question, have you drive a 964 yet?

Nope...which I admit, is crazy. I'm just in love with the design.

Regardless of the Camaro performance - there are many reasons that I wouldn't buy a GM. Company philosophy, quality of product(lack of)....

Have you driven one? EDIT: I see you haven't. I would highly recommend driving a 964 and/or a 993 before selling the RS4 or the GT350R, especially if either of those is your daily.

It's a very raw experience and much different from the other cars in your stable. They aren't particularly fast, but the tight cabin, skinny A-pillars, upright windshield, and engaging driving experience are pretty fantastic.

If I were you, I might try to pick up a 993, since those seem to be moving up a little more quickly (both are off the charts expensive compared to a decade ago) and may hold value better over the long haul, if that's a concern for you. Driving experience is pretty much the same as 964.

Also, you can always pick up a higher mileage RS4 for pretty cheap if you feel the need to own both. 964s/993s, not so much.

There was a user on here in Western NC who had a Mugello w//TI RS4 and a 964 at the same time, I believe his username is cmd4. Might be worth reaching out to get his opinion.

Yes, the GM stuff doesn't last that long. Just look at their trucks. I just finished watching a few videos of the Gt350R and Camaro head to head and would probably opt for the Gt350R for it's FPC engine. Hard to deny 8k rpms.

If I were you, I'd have a hard time giving up that car. I'd also have a hard time giving up the RS4. However, if that itch needs to be scratched, you're better off letting the GT350 go and pick up the 911, and if you haven't driven a 911 go drive one. It's a funny car in the way it handles but once you get it, you can't get enough of it.

You're gonna have an easier time replacing a GT350 than an RS4. In fact every year, they're gonna come out with a better car but there will never be another V8 RS4 Manual. That alone should make you want to keep that RS4. If you're not a collector, then the RS4 should go as the GT350 can pull the duty of the RS4 better. Manual V8 that handles.

Thanks guys - I agree, I need to drive one. If I was Jay Leno, I'd keep them all. As you guys have confirmed - this is a hard choice to make. I'm scheduled to look at 2 cars on Wednesday so I'll get the opportunity to drive one then.

I think an RS4 and a 911 is an awesome garage. I’m working on the RS4 now lol. I think the 964 is the best looking 911, just something about them. As others have said I’d keep the Audi and sell the Mustang.

I did the opposite..sold the air-cooled 993 c4s for a rs4. Honestly very different cars...both helluva lot of fun but the v8,under the radar 4 door sedan wins me over. Loved the 911 for it being a snug yet comfortable fit(I'm 6'1 200) ,old school dash and feel, smell of gas, oil, leather made for a great driving experience. But at the end of the day the rising value made it not as enjoyable out of fear of something happening and in all practical purposes it always felt a little slow to me and underpowered. I know another 911 is in the future but next one's gonna be a much older backyard hot rodded one..or 996tt or 997 targa 4s.

What would you say accelerates faster - RS4 or 964 C2? I see all of these cool 3.6 to 3.8 builds but it's very expensive and the gains seem minimal.

Love the oil tray under the 993. I had one under the GT3 but then it stopped leaking after the install of the Brombacher exhaust.I'm sure it will be back soon as the car isn't driven much. I just viewed the Porsche exhibit at the Peterson and half those cars had oil trays under them. It was great.

Stanglife, if you get a 964, ran an oil drip tray.

Definitely the rs4..if money was no problem a 3.8 build with shortened ratio tranny(euro or s.wiener) would be the ultimate set up. but your talking some serious coin for that. PM sent

An RS4 will out-accelerate any base 911 up to the 997.1 Carrera (2005-2008). It's a very close race between that car and an RS4. The 911 gets a better start because of the rear engine, but they are basically neck and neck all the way up to 150mph (same trap speed in quarter, within .3 seconds to 150).

I've been looking at 964 and gt3 as well. Love the styling of the 964 but think it would be nice to have something newer as well 997.1 gt3 would be badass. OP Maybe sell the gt350r as the resale values for RS4 are in the shitter right now.

You and your white cars. Gotta love the white. Wondering if the 993 C2S came in a WB. I though they made some rear wheel drive models with a wide body but can't be sure.

Looking for a basket case now....since I'm not a purist at all and intend on violating it, badly. It's likely that the GT350R will be the one to go.

I have both, a misano red RS4 and a Arctic silver '98 C2S and I gotta say they're completely different cars. I wouldn't sell either one but if someone put a gun to my head I'd keep the 911.
